I lived in Mexico for 10 years in the 1980s. Here are some of my favorite cities, so I'm excluding wonderful "towns": Mazatlan, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, Oaxaca, Merida. It's hard to pick a favorite because they're not alike and in different parts of the country.

Sorry, I have only been to Juarez, opposite El Paso. I was driving on I-10 and had to go to the bathroom, and Mexico was the closest exit. I stopped at what looked like a Mexican Wal-Mart and went to the bathroom; I had to leave in a hurry because the toilet overflowed and I didn't want to get arrested for flooding Mexico.

It took 2 hours to cross back over into the US, and on the bridge I think I bought enough souvenirs to finance some kid's college tuition for a year!

I just got back from Mexico City and it was amazing! There are a million things to do there. Just be careful, because it can be dangerous in some places (but I never had any problems). Mexicans are beautiful people. You will find them the most amazing aspect of any city you go to! Also check out Guadalajara, I hear it is very nice.
