You can read the current State Department's Travel Report about Mexico here: http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/pa/pa_3028.html
Your fears are probably justified, according to the latest reports.
Edit: I'm guessing either I got thumbs down from people who either didn't read the report I linked to or that I was somehow suggesting by my second statement that I thought tourists were being targeted, which if you had read the report, you would know that was not what I intended at all. Fighting sometimes has innocent bystanders who are injured or killed. That should be common sense to all. |

Tourists are NOT being targeted by drug gangs. the violence is between gangs and between gangs and police. unless you are involved in drug dealing or hang out in border towns , you will be absolutely fine...the rest of Mexico is safe. Drug gangs have no interest in tourists. they are interested in getting a larger share of the millions of dollars Americans spend on drugs each year. |

I have heard that in the US, mothers kill their kids and then they kill themselves. Wake up!!! Danger is everywhere, and please be more informed before you make such a strong comment when you are not well informed. Why would they want to kill tourists?????? What's going in Mexico right now is between the government and the drug cartels. So don't be afraid because nothing is going to happen to you. There's places in the U.S that are more dangerous than many Mexican cities. 96% of the deaths that have been going on in Mexico have to do with the drug cartels, not with normal civilians or tourists. |

You been watching to much news. The media exaggerates a bit on their reports, but you never know. Dont be afraid because thats the medias job to make you afraid. |

You are very ignorant. There is a drug problem near the mexican border... but unless you are planning on buying or selling drugs i don't think you have anything to worry about. Also, there are barely any vacation spots in Mexico near the border so I don't see what the problem is. |

It's a drug cartels/government war and the only reason for it are american buyers/consumers. |

I just came back from Mexico and me and my family loved it. We actually drove all the way to Puerto Vallarta from Nevada and we never were in danger, I think the news ALWAYS ONLY show you the bad stuff that is happening because, HELLO!! It's the news, they ONLY show bad stuff but you should not fear for your life lol That's crazy. Listen to some of the people here, unless you are a drug dealer or are going to mexico to hang around with the wrong crowd, then you have nothing to worry about because all the touristy places are very safe. It really isn't as bad as the news makes it seem. The people were very nice, if you are going somewhere where there are very many tourists then you'll be just as safe as in the US and maybe even more depending on where exactly in the US you live.
Rocky Point is a safe place, many people go there. I went last year and it seemed like most people were from Arizona. Mexico loves tourists, many countries do because it makes them money. |

I really agree with raiders just win baby the news over exaggerate on their reports they are making a lot of people scared to go to Mexico now, go to Mexico by a cruise since you will cross the border anyways go on a cruise instead of a car.Anyways the drug war is in the border towns of mexico not the whole country of Mexico. |

Why is everyone so concerned about what's going on in Mexico, have you not heard your local news? People get killed in every US city, every day, people drunk driving, businesses getting robbed, children kidnapped, and if the borders in Mexico have a civil war zone on the borders are because the US has a high drug consuming rate. |

The guy that answered your question first is a complete idiot.
You are not ignorant.
And traveling to Rocky Point means probably by car, so yes, there is a little need for concern.
I have a friend who did just that with no issues at all, if that helps.
But that first guy, what a moron. |

on the news (in san diego atleast) they advised us to not go around spring it's like a war there except with drugs
a couple of my friends went there a while back and went to a bar in tijuana and the next hour they were passed out and woke up in a room and had to pay the guys like 5,000 dollars or some ****
also the person above me is very stupid, mexico is a bad place, and its a true fact that mexico is not a safe place to be so you aren't ignorant just smart |

First, you must know that Mexico is not a very stable country and the government is not at the level of British or French governments. They are even filled with more corruption than our US government.
Mexican killing on tourist is very heavy. Some do it for bribes, drugs, power, terrorism, or ransoms. This so called violence killing is lowering tourist rates heavily and the government is almost powerless due to its corrupt and inexperienced police force.
My opinion would be to stay in America, there isnt much chance of actually being killed in Mexico if you stay safe, but there is a high chance of injury(some serious).
The best option is to never take the risk because your life depends on this one. Stay safe and go somewhere else, but why is your dad forcing you to go??? |
