Help please! What is the cheapest place or way to get a flight from Chicago to Cancun?

My parents are taking me and my siblings on a reward trip to Cancun for our good academic performance this year. What is the cheapest way to get to Cancun for a flight. I would appreciate very much any responses. Help, please!

If you have never been, I would go to a travel agent who is very knowledgeable with Cancun. A great travel agent is familiar with what tour companies have the best deal in your market. Charter services usually operate specific schedules (i.e. depart Sunday, return Sunday). These schedules may vary from three to seven nights. A knowledgeable travel agent knows the hotels which has the best amenities for families. You didn't state how old you and your siblings are. In your case, by using a travel agent, they will search for you, saving you tons of time and a lot of headache.

Prices will vary from day to day sometimes, too. This has nothing to do with the airlines being Mexican. What this has to do with is 'availability'. An airline designates a limited number seats at a certain fare (cost). Once that allotment has been depleted, the rates do go up. This can change within an hour. If a sale expires before you purchase the tickets, that, too, can/will cause the price to increase.

If you do not use a 'charter' service (again check with a local travel agent) and use 'scheduled' air, try traveling mid week. Most travelers do want to travel over a weekend. If you have the flexibility to travel say on Tues/Wed/Thurs coming and going, then the 'cheap seats' should be more readily available. If you have flexible times, please check those for better rates, too.

Passports are a must. If you do not have passports, you must get that started immediately. It has been taking upwards of three months to get a passport. Being in Chicago, you should be able to go directly to the passport office and get it done quicker. But be prepared for long lines.

Finally, if one of your parents is actually a 'step' parent, and you are under the age of 18, you will have to have a notorized letter from the absent parent granting permission to travel outside of the U.S. If in the event one parent is deceased, you will have to have a death certificate showing that, too.

Sounds like a lot but it's really not. Preparation on the front end ensures fun fun fun! on the trip.

Enjoy!

If you want a weekend stay of 3-4 days, I suggest you check for a last minute vacation package such as that often offered by site59.com, travelocity.com, expedia.com, or travelzoo.com. I frequently find package (flight, hotel, car) prices lower than the air fares I find for the same destination(s). Even if you wind up not using the hotel or car, you may still save on the flight.

I would try www.Mexicana.com they usually have some pretty good deals..If you try and fly with delta or any american flights they tend to be way much more to fly with...talking about a $300.00 difference in tickets or more..Good Luck~

I just booked tickets to Mexico... I searched on Orbitz.com, expedia.com, cheapflights.com, cheaptickets.com, and I forgot what else. Based on the dates and city of departure/arrival, our best deal was through Orbitz, but its different for everyone's flight. its worth the time to check on all these sites to save a few $$. good luck!

Search for with any of the search engines like orbitz or travelocity but be watchful of Mexican airline prices. I found tickets from Seattle to Guadalajara for August and when I went back to purchase the tickets the next morning they were just shy of a $100 more!! I called the airlines and they said their rates fluctuate every hour...
