look in Mexico price of gas is settled by the State, oil and all the industries related including the manufacture of gas it only canbe provided by the state.

the price of gas is around 1.75 USD due to a recent devaluation of the mexican Peso against the US dollar.

So prices don´t move with the market like in the USA.

Gas is less than in the US. Driving in Mexico is an experience, and sometimes an adventure. I would live here for awhile and learn to drive like a Mexican first, before you get rid of the car. Mexicans are acutely aware of everything around them and expect you to be too. Believe me it is a learned skill.

Get "Head for Mexico" by Don Adams and "Peoples Guide to Mexico" by Carl Franz. Read them both before you come. Trust me, they will help answer questions you didn't even know to ask.

In the past 3 1/2 years, gas was always cheaper here in Mexico than in the US. Just in the past few weeks with the dramatic drop in gas prices in the U.S., gas is now more expensive here in Mexico than in the U.S. Gas prices here do not vary widely at different times of year like they do in the U.S. The price is 7.5 pesos per liter. Four liters makes just a bit over a gallon...so that is 30 pesos a gallon. With the current exchange rate, that makes the gas $2.28 a gallon here in Mexico.

Gas prices here have held steady during this time that it has fluctuated so much in the US. Right now it costs me the equivalent of about $35 us to fill up my 17 gallon tank. With the exchange rate, that's much less than I was paying a year ago but it's NOT lower in pesos... still between 400 and 450 pesos to fill it up. Don't know where you're going to be in Mexico, but most people in the areas I've been in use the cheap public transportation or they walk. Mopeds are dangerous with the driving/traffic the way it is here.

it is chepaer in mexico

Gas is pricier in Mexico..for the time being, anyway. But it is nowhere near as brutal as in Europe or many places in the world... The good news is that in Mexico you don't have to worry about driving from station to station to find the best gas price! LoL.

But seriously I would be terrified to drive a moped in Mexico. Motorcycle drivers have a whole different mentality in Mexico and drive 'between the lines.' Literally. So if a moped or a motorcycle is dangerous in the States it's that much more dangerous in Mx.

Taking your car there is really not a big deal and a much wiser choice IMHO. But if you intend to be there for a very long time you may need to legalize your car (which you can do here in the US before you go) and that can cost upwards $1000 USD.

Buy yourself a tank.

gas is less expensive there than the US.

not too sure how you safe you would be with a moped there -- guess it depends on where you choose to live.

i'd keep the car for now and sell it later.
