Just got back from Playa last May. We stayed at Viva Wyndham Maya. Pretty much all the all inclusives in the Playa Del Carmen area are nice.

Let's see, fun things to do. Take a day trip to the Mayan Ruins of Tulum. If you've never seen them they are interesting. Take a guided trip and you will learn alot about Mayan history.

You can also take a day trip to Xel Ha. This is a natural oceanic estuary. A fresh water cenote (underground river) empties into the estuary at the far end. You can take inner tubes and float down a long river from where the cenote enters all the way to the ocean. As you start out the water is almost free of salt and rather cool. The further down the river you go the more salty the water becomes as it mixes with the ocean water. You can actually feel the cold fresh water dropping away from the surface at you feet the closer you get to the ocean. They have a thing called Aqua Trek there. You take a guided underwater walking tour on the bottom with a helmet on your head. You receive air in the helmet from a tube coming from an air compressor on the surface. You get to feed fish and touch stingrays. Several resaurants there and you can rent snorkel gear. You can also swim with dolphins there.

Spend one day shopping in Playa Del Carmen on Fifth Ave. You can catch a ferry from Playa to Cozumel if you want to take a day trip there. The smallest Hard Rock Cafe in the world is in San Miquel on Cozumel. If you can, go to Cozumel on Sunday afternoon. Every Sunday a 6:00 pm almost the entire island comes to town. You can mix with the islanders and listen to a mariachi band in the town square of San Miquel. All the little girls are dressed up in Mexican dresses wearing shiny patent leather shoes.

Hope ya have fun.

Woooow the flamenco its very beautiful hotel.. But you have to go out also..like to walk in the 5ta av.. everything its so beautiful, and if you want to do tours you cant try to dive, Cozumel have the second biggest reef on the world, the firts one is on Australia.. or at list if you don't dive you can go to do snorkel ...

in the night they are so many places to go dance, drink, ar just go to relax ..

look in this websites..

www.rivieramaya.com
www.diversutydiving.com

There is lot to do in that area. Beaches, shopping, ruins, snorkeling and so much more, one of my favourite places. I'm sure you'll have a great time and certain you won't run out of fun/interesting things to do in the area.

I assume that you are flying into Cancun, when you get off the plane there will be people there handing out booklets, called Cancun Tips (ask for the riviera Maya edition). They are full of maps and coupons and little bits of information for everything that is available in the area. Take one of those, maybe one for each room.

Secondly, if you are outside of PDC use the collectivo (sp?) to get to town it's only a couple of bucks and it fast and safe and a fraction of what taking a taxi will cost.

Sure do know,
Stay at Aventura, an all inclusive resort for adults only. It is FAB
Playa del Carmen area is the only place I like in all of Mexico.
You can go tubing, Mayan ruins, swim with dolphins, explore the jungle, snorkel, ride wave runners, take the ferry over to Cozumel, one of the best 10 places in the world to scuba dive with the water clarity and coral reefs, shop, eat, drink, sun, sailboat, massages, etc. etc.
Have a great time, now I am jealous !!

Respect the locals and the locals will respect you. Bring a lot of us $1.00 bills for tips. The US dollar goes far and the employees at the all inclusive resorts deserve them. Bellhops/drivers $1.00 a bag. $1.00 a drink, $2.00 day for house keeping and $1 - $2 for nightly turndown service.$2 per person at meals. The help will recognize you and give you that little extra attention. As an earlier poster stated: There is so much to do there. Just inquire with your resort and all the activities available. You are bound to find something you will enjoy. I highly recommend a day trip to any of the Mayan Ruins. We will be returning to the Mayan Riviera March 17-24!

Hey, I'm going too! I'm sooo excited. I bet you guys are too. I'm actually going the week after yours and the one after.

By the way, you have this under the Cancún category, and not Playa del Carmen.

I'll keep track of your question to see what fun stuff to do as well. Thanks
