How come there is no taco bell in Mexico?

Taco Bell is nothing like real Mexican food. It is a collection of dishes created in the USA targeted to Anglos. Their items are creations loosely adapted in California and Texas Mexican American dishes. For example Mexicans do not know hard tacos; they are now familiar with some USA created items like Nachos and Fajitas.

The concept of Taco Bell and its marketing campaign is directed to Anglos that want to try "foreign" food, but are not real comfortable with trying something very different. In all reality is Fast American Food dressed as Mexican. I am sure eventually Taco Bell will open operations in Mexico. It will start operations in touristic places where it can continue targeting their main market.

My guess is that they would be appalled by Taco Bell's poor imitation of Mexican food.

Taco Bell in the USA is cheep fast food with cardboard tortillas. In Mexico you can get tastier fast food, with real tortillas for less money on any street. Taco Bell would go broke fast for lack of customers.

Dude! IÂ´m mexican and let me tell you: Taco Bell is NOT mexican food. Taco Bell is just the american version of what the United States think mexican food is like.

Unbelievable!...understandable, though. Happens in every country, I think. You canÂ´t expect to eat a countryÂ´s dish just like if you were there. I canÂ´t expect to eat pizza like if I were in Italy (which are also completely different from the ones we know, I was told).
You are wrong if you think this is nearly mexican.
...perfect excuse to come down and enjoy the real taste of one of the best gastronomies of the world.

We don't like it. Taco Bell set up shop in Mexico City shortly after NAFTA went into effect in 1994. They went out of business fast. We don't like it.

Compared to Mexican food (tacos, enchiladas, gorditas, quezadillas, chilaquiles, chile poblano, etc). Taco bell is cheap fast-food. We do not like it. mexican food is a lot better than taco bell. It is as if we set up a Mexican imitation of Hamburgers in the U.S. I don't think many people would go.

Taco Bell is NOT mexican food, is terrible bad.
Real tacos are very, very different to that ugly bad taste things taco bell makes.

I agree with Jenh and Mari....... and most of the ppl who have answered and are actually knowledgeable about the topic.

So my answer would be: For the same reason there is no starbucks in Rome.................... you can get a GORGEOUS, good and GENUINE freshly brewed coffee, expresso or cappuccino just at any tiny coffee shop for about $1.50 USD ....... so who would pay 3 USD or more for drinking a less good coffee at Starbucks?? They'd go broke in a month. Same here.... we have such great GENUINE mexican food for reasonable prices all over, that no one would go to an american owned business which has no idea about what REAL mexican food is!!

because Mexicans will no eat there, they are to proud to aloud a foreign company to sell tacos that actually are very different than Mexican tacos

They probably will put one up soon. I noticed they have a McDonald's, KFC, El pollo loco, and some other familiar restaurants already. Any company can put a business in Mexico and then make money, that is all that really matters to a lot of people. Mexico wouldn't mind it because it would provide jobs and opportunities for the people there. It would most likely be put on the borders cities because a lot they know that tourist would eat there. It would be a comfort zone for a tourist.
