How do I ship personal household items from NYC to Puerto Vallarta?
I am buying a house in Puerto Vallarta. How do I ship several cartons full of personal belongings such as: dishes, glassware, pots/pans, bedlinens, books etc. to Puerto Vallarta? If I obtain FM3 status does that help me? I am concerned about price, breakage, loss, and convenience. I will take approximately 6 flights there this year; is my best plan to take some 'stuff; as baggage each flight? Do you have any suggestions for which airline...or how to pack? Some items are new...Thank you.
You MUST have an FM3 to be allowed to move household items to Mexico. It will likely cost more than the items are worth. Sparks is right...keep the keepsakes and very special items, and leave the rest behind or sell it. You can buy new things there in many places..cheaper than moving your stuff. If you shop in Costco and other American chain stores youwill spend a LOT. You may prefer to take time to find beautiful furniture made in Mexico over a period of time and redecorate with items from Mexico. If money does not matter, you can ship your things, bit it will be expensive. See site below to read about moving your belongings.

Sell it all and buy new stuff at the Vallarta Costco, Walmart or Home Depot
Take the rest as baggage

You are in fact better off to sell all your heavy things and bring items that are dear to you on the 6 flights you referred to.
Fed-ex are here as well as U.P.S and D.H.L and you can get on-line quotes.
Copel and Salinas y Rocha are good places for furnishings and WAL MART for numerous household items.
You mean you are going to buy a house here.
The "Ministeria Asuntos exteriores" will issue a permit to the bank of your choice. (Scotia bank is popular).Authorizing the purchase. No Financing for gringos. However you can take a small mortgage if approved shortly thereafter.

ABF u-pack will do international shipments. It can get expensive (San Diego to NYC) for a 2000 sq ft home was 2200. My friend drove a uHaul to Fl 1200 sq ft and then loaded a ABF truck and had them take it to Puerto Rico it was 900 instead of the 3200 they were asking from NY.. Good luck

I would take as much as you could each time with carry on luggage 2 bags up to 50 lbs. Books and dishes and pots and pans if they are expensive brands. I would take the most important and hard to replace items like photos first and electronic items are less expensive in U.S.A. Then if you have anything left over you need shipped check if there is A. Arnold or other large moving company to move furniture or other items if really needed. Most of furniture and linens can be bought in Mexico unless you have something antique or special I would take as much of your personal items on the plane and sell the other stuff that can be replaced in Mexico. Check into FM3 status. I have taken many items with me on the plane to Mexico.
