I walked.... Takes about 3 hours to the center of the city.... Walk when the sun has just started coming up so you don't get heat stroke... Watch for snakes in the long brush... Have fun!

Hire a taxi. Make sure you agree on the price before you get in the cab.

Just got back Saturday!
I agree regarding walking past "sharks" trying to sell timeshares.
Walk past them to outside and there will be a fella who will direct you to a cab. You'll have your choice of a regular or SUV type. Driver got two big suitcases and golf clubs in regular cab. Don't be surprised if driver asks for fare before leaving airport grounds - he pays as he exits.
Wouldn't think about walking across highway!
Expect to pay around $25 US.

The cheapest way is to walk past the time-share sharks, straight out the front door, take a left, go over the pedestrian bridge, and find a taxi. Be sure to set the price. If you are in the "hotel zone', it should be less than $15. Each zone has a different price. If you have luggage, it is best to stop at the taxi stand, marked ":Taxi".just inside the exit doors. They have to pay an extra government fee, $22 for the same ride.
Go to the right side of the booth (they are two separate companies), say you want the "Que Pasa" discount, which is 10% off the normal fee. Que Pasa is a great bar, off the beaten path, on the south side of town. You can repay them by visiting the bar. Look at "http://vallartainfo.com/south.html" for the map, click on Que Pasa for directions and the website and you will feel like a native, who knows the "in" spots.

Great responses from Katie, Brad S, and Vermontchef.

The guys that are offering free rides in the airport are timeshare sellers (a.k.a. Timeshare Sharks). They will try to trick you to go on a quick "45-minute" timeshare tour that will really last for hours. Don't fall for this. A free ride isn't worth hours of wasted vacation time!

As I recall, the expensive airport taxis are white. If you cross the airport's elevated pedestrian bridge to the other side of the highway, you will encounter the regular yellow taxi cabs. The yellow ones are less expensive.

Some of the yellow cabs have more cargo space than the others. If a small cab stops for you and you have excessive luggage, the driver can radio his dispatcher for a larger one to pick you up.

DOn't talk to anyone. They are timeshare and will waste your time. To save money, walk with your luggage acrossthe highway which has a walkway above it and rent a taxi there. You will save $25+
