Compared to Cabo San Lucas the prices in the touristical areas are more or less the same. (At least two years ago.) But as Puerto Vallarta is ( 4 hours ) close to Guadalajara, a 6 Million pple city, You find all You want at half price if You go more inside the city.

Best place to find very good prices is El Pitillal, a typical mexican zone, where are just a few tourists. It is 10 Minutes from down town with a green bus which says "Pitillal".

If You are looking for rare mexican products, book a tour to Guadalajara, and shop at the zones "Tlaquepaque" or "Tonala". There You find all the things You can buy in Cabo or Puerto Vallarta at HALF PRICE !!!

If You want to save some bucks within downtown You may visit the "Flee market" close to the Rio Cuale, ask for it, everybody knows. The prices are not fixed, You can negociate.

If You want a good and not expensive party place, choose the "Viejo Vallarta" good changing music with a half and half mixture of tourists and mexicans.

The cheapest and best Supermarket is "Soriana", very big and well sorted, its better then "Wal Mart" at same products.

One last TIP, if possible, book an all inclusive hotel or resort, because eating out in Vallarta can become very expensive if You have to do so each day.

On the mentioned site You find some maps and some hotels, on the maps You see the hotel zones, it could be interesting to You to choose something close to the center but not Nuevo Vallarta. Best would be Hotel zone, north or south or Marina area. From these areas You reach the center within 5 to 10 minutes paying 5 pesos for a bus.

I stayed at an all-inclusive resort, Riu Jalisco, and it didn't cost too much for 5 days. The food there is inexpensive and very good. As far as shopping, you can get whatever you want without spending a ton of cash. The taxis will take you whereever you want to go for $20. I used the same taxi driver all day when I went shopping and it cost me only $40. I got into all of the clubs for free. I guess it pays to be a girl :) Have a great time!
