In larger cities the medical care is excellent. I live near Guadalajara and we have world class hospitals and doctors, many of whom have trained in Europe or the United States.
Small towns, however, can be pretty dicey. Resort and tourist areas are not bad, but the cities are your best bet. |

Well i have to say, they may have shitty, savage people down there, but they do have an excellent heatlhcare system. I lived on a border city and anything i ever needed we would cross over to the mexican border city - it was cheaper, yet just as effective.
I developed appendecitis and was rushed to a hospital in the mexican border city and they operated on me immediately, and was released a week later w/ no problems. The quality of rooms, the quality of doctors was excellent.
In fact i have to say that that hospital i was in Centro Medico de Especialiades was far, far, far more superior than the general hospitals in America.
My dad is a doctor down there so i have seen many hospitals and met many doctors and they are top class. People may disagree because it's mexico. But you'd be surprised!
EDIT: I'm a Mexican, as all of my family is, I'm being honest - foreign people automatically deter themselves from Mexico (especially when it comes to healthcare) because of the people. They automatically think that the healthcare is crap -just because it's a third world country.
I'm not like that... but i thought you would be put off by them because of the question you're asking you don't come across as being a Mexican - I'm not being racist. I love my country - just wish it was a bit more civil. |

There are many world class physicians in Mexico. It is easier to find the outstanding doctors in the big cities. |

Some are good, some are bad, as everywhere else. I was dgx in 1 month with something than on average in the US take 8 to 10 years to be diagnosed, my dr is great, it's all relative.
Is it safe? well, it makes a difference if you are in a city or a small town, if you refer where you would be then we can help you out more. |

I think if you are in the tourist areas you should be safe, but stay away from the local doctors or hospitals. In the case that something does happen contact the US embassy and they can assist you in finding the right treatment. Keep the number handy anytime you go into a foreign country. |
