In the USA if you have never had a passport issued to you, it will take up to 12 weeks to get a passport
or
you can pay extra!! and get an expedited passport in less than 3 weeks
You must have a certified birth certificate and drivers license or id card

I don't know where "Kaitlyn" got the idea that your local post office issues passports or that it tqkes 5 days...both ridiculous ideas! The passport service currently says it is taling 4 to 6 weeks plus mailing time to process a passport...and 2 to 3 weeks if you pay to have it expedited and pay for express mail. see 1st site below. In most cities, the post office has a passport office where you turn in your application...which is then sent in to the passport service to be processed. See 2nd site for all application info. there are 13 regional passport offices in the U.s. If you happen to live near one, you can call for an appointment , then get your passport there usually within 48 hrs. See 3rd site for list. |

My mother and brother just got passports for the first time and it took less than 3 weeks from the day they mailed the application until they received their passports...it seems the earlier problems have been resolved...good luck and enjoy your trip. |

just go and get your picture taken they might do it at your local post office. it will take less than 5 days~_~
