How many hours does it take to drive from laredo, tx to monterry, mx?

Hi !

After reading the answers I thought I'd try to answer this. No way you can get from Laredo to Monterrey in two and a half hours no matter what the Monterrey speedsters may brahg about - there is a lot of traffic in Nuevo Laredo and also sometimes in Monterrey.

Using the toll highway it is about 3 hours 15 minutes to three and a half hours driving fairly fast (65 - 75 mph). Avoid rush hours when it adds a little more trafficand time.

Crossing the bridge to get into Mexico is a breeze and I rarely see long, if any lines to go INTO Mexico. The long lines develop going into the USA. You'll probably wait for two cars to get the green customs light as you slow up after crossing the bridge. There is a second customs revistion point about 15 miles (25 km) after the crossing where they are a little stricter but usually you just go right through, though if they search you it can take 5 or 10 minutes and you ought to smile and be friendly and it ought to go well.

The distance is slightly under 150 miles or about 250 kilometers. Kilometermarkers on both highways (toll (cuota) and free (libre)) will give you the exact distance left as you tool along.

The toll highway saves about 20-30 minutes on normal days. Just keep in mind the free highway can saturate with 18 wheelers and is pretty hairy to drive at late night when the truckers are groggy and pulling off on all sides of the road, at which time I would highly recommend paying the approximately $16-18 USD toll if you value your life.

During the day I always save the money and drive the free route. Be careful about the corrupt unmarked transit police official in the town of Vallecillo if you take the free route. He is a master of extortion and bribes. If he gets you don't give him more than $5. He will make things up and smile and say he will keep your license if you don't pay him for "the sodas" = "Las Cocas". He drives an old unmarked car and sits by the middle speed bump.

Good luck in Monterrey. I just returned and drove the free route last night. Should've paid for the toll -it was late and the two-lane road is also narrow. The toll road is like an interstate US highway, though not quiteas wellmaintained, though it is only about 70% of the total miles.

Saludos!

You have to take into consideration the extra time standing in line on the international bridge.
There can be some looooong lines there

Mexpost, are you SURE you were driving 65-75mph on the Toll Road to Monterrey and it took you 3 HRS AND 15 MIN.?! Maybe you were confused, maybe you were driving 65-75 KILOMETERS per hour. Check your speedometer again. The last time it took me 3 hours and 15 min. getting to Monterrey from Laredo was in a friends old van on the free road.

Get on the toll and FLY, baby! 2 hours. If you are behaving yourself, then, yes, 2 1/2.

But, Mexpost is right... you can save a lot of money going the free road... and he is right about the "transito" (police) and you have to go EXTRA SLOW in that town because of all the speed bumps! But, if you value your car, its shocks, its tires... in the long run you will save alot of money just taking the toll. It can also be alot easier for a "newcomer" then the free road.

Hey, have a blast!

Assuming you don't have delays at the bridge or at Mexican Customs (known as Kilometro 15) and assuming you take the toll road, you're looking at about 2 to 2-1/2 hours going at about 65-70 MPH. That's just to the outskirts of Monterrey, to the city center add another 20-30 minutes.

Below is a link by the way if you need to find other distances in Mexico.
