I am an American, retired, living in Mexico. In general, rents are about half what they are in the midwest in the U.S. IN my area in the state of Veracruz, a nice, but not luxurious 2 bedroom house is about $300 to $400.00 U.S. per month...can find cheaper housing too. More in big cities, less in sm. towns. Elec. here is about $ 20.00 every TWO months , basic phone is $24.00 a month Gas for your stove and hot water is about $10.00 a month. Groceries are close to same as in the states...fruits and veggies cheap. Clothing is more expensive and so are appliances and electronics...but with good shopping you can find better prices. Televsion...cable or sattelite service is about $50.00 to $60.00 U.S. per month. Prices in touristy areas or areas with lots of Gringos are much higher...in non-touristy areas like here, they are much less. Medical care is a fraction of cost in the U.S., so are plumbers, electrcians, other services. You may email me if you would like more info. Good Luck.

The cost of living is very low, depending on the area. I live near Tula. It is a "nice" area.
Average rent is about $1,500 pesos a month, thats about a $150 U.S. dollars.
Electric bills are usually around $50.00 U.S. dollars a month.
Phone bills for local an international can vary. Mine is pretty expensive though.
Food is very cheap, but electronics and clothing etc. are expensive. They seem to double the price on everything.
For example: An average brand Washer and Dryer set will run you more than $1200 dollars. That is because most people in Mexico, hand wash or use the old style washers, and clothes line dry their laundry.
Mexico is a nice place to live. There are a lot of cultural differences you have to get used to.

It depends on how do you want to live, live well is not cheap anywhere! but cheaper than US if you still make money is USD, more expensive if you make pesos

Man you must be living in the slums - average rent?

>>>> Electric bills are usually around $50.00 U.S. dollars a month.

Possible if you don't use air and live in a cooler climate

>>>> An average brand Washer and Dryer set will run you more than $1200 dollars.

I just bought a new Whirlpool washer for $375 and nobody uses a dryer - electricity is too expensive and the sun works well.

Gas for your car is $2.30us a gallon, fresh food is cheap, processed food is about the same as the US
