If you love silver jewelry.... bring extra. The men on the beach sold me 5 unique bracelets for 20.00. I wish I had gotten more for gifts and myself... they are still beautiful. They love american dollars, so you can talk the price down big time. GO to the markets in town some - see Cheapo Felipo... first market on the left when I was there... and he gives you super cold Coronas with a lime while you shop. Whatever you do, do not take the offers of "do you smoke?" No telling what they will sell you and if you will end up in a mexican prison. YIKES... they are very pushy at the market stores though - you just got to say no and move on or they will grab you by the hand and pull you in their store and it will be even harder to leave. I would say 800.00 spending money for a person for a week. More if you are a big shopper and excursion person. Remember too some of the workers earn $5 for the day, so they will work their *** for you and it is well worth the generous tip... they will treat you like gold at the resort when they see you again. If you tip well to the bartenders anywhere, even if the drinks are good... you will get excellent service, fast and excellent drinks. I went to La Boom (super happening place - 2 clubs in one) on a party bus from the hotel and handed the bartender a 10 when I got there and said hey remember me and my vodka /7 and when I walked up my drink was strong and right there waiting. The tours you will spend a couple 100.00 so that will leave you with 600 for shopping and tipping. Have fun... I will be going back there again and again. By the way, don't take a taxi - the bus stops everywhere and there are so many, they are quick, and they are under a dollar for whereever you need to get to in the entire hotel/resort district. |

I just got back on saturday for a week... I had a travel agent, but I paid $1,435 for an all inclusive hotel + flights... I brought 640 with me and I probably spent about 440 of it on non-food things (like additional travels to the ruins, bullfights, and a cruise)... but I got by that way. |

When I stayed there it was all inclusive as well. This is what I spent...$100 per person for snorking (included equiptment, locker rental, and food and drinks), $150 shopping, $83 car rental, (cabs are fairly cheap as well). If the resort is all inclusive, then you really don't need that much. Hope this helps. |

No more than $400. Credit cards can be used at most shops, so cash will only be for street vendors and tips. I think we took that much on our trip and had more than enough. |
