We go to Mexico aboutevery year, and I take about 400.00 in ones for tipping at the bars, restaraunts, housekeeping, taxi service. Anything. Also where we go the workers perfer the U.S. dollar, it's worth more. As far as going to bars, or shopping, or anything else you have to make a budget of what your allowed to spend and stick to it.

Take a charge card and maximum $100, in Mexico most places take charge cards, you will only need money if you want to buy something at a street booth or to take a taxi and some taxi's take charge cards.

Just be aware, if your taking a taxi, ask the price before you get in or else you may be fleeced, once your inside the cab they can charge you anything they want in Mexico.

Your money is very valued in Mexico so $5. will go a very long way, don't over-tip or you won't get rid of people. Your not allowed to tip the hotel staff either. If they are caught taking a tip they will be fired so if you do decide to tip keep it on the sly and tell no one.

I go to Mexico every year and have learned these and a few other lessons. Be careful if your traveling alone, don't walk the streets alone.

Always keep any valuables locked in the room safe or they may be stolen. Mexico is a beautiful and very friendly place and I love it but the police are corrupt.

well, you never know what you will find that you will want to buy. how long are you going for? are you gonna shop for everything or just one specific category? i say bring about $500 for a day. do remember: you can bargain. good luck

Hi,

I agree with everyone & you will have a great time there. Just depends on what you plan on doing & your budget or if you even have one beacuse you could keep spending & doing thing that could really add up. My husband and I always took about $600.00 & have always came back with at least $100.00 or more. But we did charge things too a few times also.

Take about $400 to $500.00 its not as inexpensive as people would like to make you believe.

First of all you are going to have a blast!!!!! I just got back from cancun 2 days ago....Everything in Cancun is dollar priced... I stayed for nine days and $800.00 were not enough... It all depends on what you are going to do..If you are planning to go sight seeing each trip will cost you fom 60-100 dollars, plus when you get to the place there are many activities that you can do that will cost you extra.. for example snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins etc... the activitiesrange in price from 40-80 dollars..plus tips, and souvenirs...There are many beautiful souvenirs. Here is a tip if you like something bargain for it, put a price on it that way you will save money...The night life in cancun is also FANTASTIC and pricey, the cover charge for night clubs range from 35-60 dollars per club...Tips are not included or transportation...I also stayed in all inclusive hotel so I did not spend money on food, but I did tip my waiter and the bartenders, because tips are not included... Good Luck!!!! have tons of FUN :-)

Are you going to shop? You will want to bring some money to tip when necessary. We tip at the end of a stay in the restaurants and daily for the housekeeping. Not because we think it gives better service, but because they work hard - very hard for wages we can't comprehend. Anyway, $20 per day is probably more than enough to allow unless, like I said, you are a shopper!!!!

Whatever you need for souvenirs and food outside the hotel. Are you old enough to drink and plan on hitting the clubs? Cover is about $20 for all you can drink in most places. Jet skiing, snorkeling, etc that you may want to do can go on a credit card. Have fun Cancun is a blast.

Melissa
We took about $200 cash for souvenirs, buses, etc. We took all small bills because you get your change back in pesos.

Anyway, we did spend it all and we used our charge card a few times. But we were buying souvenirs for ourselves and our family.

It really depends on how much shopping you plan to do, and whether you're going on excursions and such where you'd want to buy snacks or souvenirs.
