are your grandma from Cd. Juarez?...if that...yes is true that in that city is a lot of crime right now, but is among the mafia, and is due to the proximity to the USA border...is being probe that the american authorities has some form of conection with them, so is not only in Mexico but also in the south border of the USA

Look ,
Mexico is not any more as it was before, but, I can tell you that some places still safe, like Queretaro and some others cities...

Can tell you also that if you are a person that take drugs and likes to go to a not very nice places, Mexico wont be safe at all..
As in every where you have to be careful, try to do not show that you have money, do not take you passport with you, take the money you just will need any more..

Mexico is nice and Mexican people are very nice too... (he he Im mexican)....
No all mexican are bad....
Have a good trip, If you need any think please contac me.
Send me a e mail.

My family's in danger right now. There's a guy who wants to destroy my great grandma's property, my uncle is under threat by snipers if he sniches on them for shooting at a funeral from the taxi my uncle was driving (he didn't know they were gonna do this), and my other uncle is hiding from the Mexican Mafia who wanna kill him and his family. There's been a lot of other homocides I've heard about on Latino News that I don't really remember. Also, Mexico is the 2nd most dangerous for American journalists and reporters.

Mexico is still a nice country anyways. Don't let threats prevent you from visiting your grandma. Family is very important in our culture, anyways.

VIVA LA RAZA!

it depends wether you live in the city or somewhere lonely

I choose to beleive that I am always safe and guess what? I am! so, keep that in mind, use your common sense and don't go to bad neigborhoods, don't get drunk and loose concience, don't go with a stranger to a lonely place... c'mon what am I saying? use your common sense as anywhere else in the world, and you'll be fine.

caliguy496
I dont reccomend anyone to go anywhere alone

Everything you heard has a half truth to it and only concerns the border town's. As long as that is not your destination , your fine.

msblast6
I think it's very safe. From my experiences, just stay in the cities, and you'll be fine.

Mexico has never been a 100% safe country. No country ever has. But unfortunately Mexico is not as safe as it should be. Like anywhere else in the world, it has BEAUTIFUL areas, but of course it also has its "bad" sections. Many people compare how Mexico is to their country (usually the US), and they have this notion that it is so unsafe and you will die when you arrive. That is completely not the case, there are many safe places to enjoy yourself. But I will say though - my main reason for moving out of Mexico was in fact my safety, only because I was slightly well know. But I still visit several times a year, I still have a house there, I still have family and friends there. Another point to add though is the escalating violence with the current drug problems. Drug trafficking has been increasing, and due to this violence has elevated - take for example my hometown that got bombed September 15th. My thoughts aren't clearly organized in this answer and I apologize for that, but my point is simple. Don't let certain things prevent you from doing things. If you are afraid to go to Mexico because it is unsafe, well, the gas station that you just filled up at has the chance of being robbed and you being there. There are risks everywhere. Live your life, and fight against the evil in our world. Viva México.

It's safe just stick to tourist destinations

biggenbill36
Stick to the large tourist destinations. Most of the all inclusives have good security. When out and about go in groups larger than 3 and never by yourself. When partying remember that you are in a foreign country and far from home. Have fun and stick to where there are few Mexican nationals. You know with more vacationers like yourself.

That's true, I also have been hearing of more and more crimes occurring in Mexico, which includes involve innocent people being killed. It's sad because I feel Mexico is getting out of control. But the stories I've heard of come mostly from norther Mexico near the border with the US.

dieselboy12
Girl, we're in the same shoes. Mines lives in Michoacan, which is probably the least safest state in the country at this point. I haven't been there in the last 2 years for the same reason. The killings have been increasing dramatically and has spread to the civilian communities. You don't hear too much about it in the media, but if you start doing research in the Mexican newspapers, alot of people are getting killed. This is mostly in border cities and southern states. Yes, you can still go hit the big tourist areas, that's not where the real issues are at.
