I wouldn't recommend driving there and especially if you aren't familiar with the area. There are too many things that can happen and renting cars in Mexico is no glamorous thing. Lots of headaches and it's not worth all the trouble and hassels. It is rumored that if native people from the area see that you are foreign they will try to get into an accident with you because they know you have insurance and will sue you for money and blame you (I have worked with people from the area that can vouch for this). It's just not worth it. They have enough means of transportation to get you where you need to go. Enjoy your time!!! |

i lived near playa, for 4 years, and never had a problem.
i have friends that got pulled over every time they went there.
they have grey hair (don't look mexican)
the highway is kind of hairy, people drive pretty fast, be careful.
one tip....
when you pass the police, if they are on the side of the road.
DO NOT MAKE EYE CONTACT.
they will pull you over, just look straight ahead.
i've heard of extortion, but never did experience it. |

The iberostar is so nice. loved it. its like 5 hotesl in one. lol.
uhh sorda, dont drive down any dark alleys, if its just you then yes. If you have a family, prefarably a young girl, boy, or wife, then no. they take ransomes and other stuff. But probably yes you prettty safe. |
