How safe is it to stay in Tijuana Mexico?

Is it easy to get drugs there? Are there a lot of gangs?
Additional Details
But I thought the Mexican people are friendly? Would they bother me or try to rob me?

It's not bad. You can get drugs easily everywhere. You just have to know where to look.
Sure mexicans are pretty friendly. Go there by day and stay in safe areas. Mexicans know a lot of americans go there for the..ehm fun. If you do stupid things like going out at night by yourself, you'll probably get robbed.

The third question you didn't ask: How can I get a lawyer if I'm in Mexican jail? Fourth question: How fun are they?

J:)
mexican people are super friendly but tijuana is NOT a good part of mexico i would recoment going lower to cabos san lucas or acapulco or ixtapa or puerto vallarta, thhey are much safer/better than tijuana

Im not sure what to say, ive been there a few times while visiting some cousins. that was fine because we were indoors. if they notice that you are a tourist and dont know much they might want to take advantage, such as giving you outdated currency as change which is worthless.

i say its kinda dangerous regarding getting drugs/gangs even some cops are sellouts and dangerous. they might arrest you just for the **** of it. a few year ago we went to mexico for my grandma's funeral and the cops wanted to give my dad a speeding ticket or something eventhough WE WERENT, we were going at a decent speed, kinda slow compared to the other cars who were passing us by far.

unless you are staying with family, i wouldnt recommend spending the night at a hotel, atleast not a cheap one. i would think its like south central LA. Tijuana by the border is whack and dangerous. maybe try rosarito or ensenada. i think they are nicer since they have tourist places like near the water and TJ doesnt.

oh and they they dont respect the law, they drive CRAZY.

yeah the ppl are nice, its just that near the border there are those crazy narcotic people that make the chaos.

Like anywhere, you are safe if you stay in SAFE AREAS. If you are staying at a hotel, ask around BEFORE you go. Don't ask the yellow taxi drivers, because they usually get a commission from places they recommend. Day time is pretty safe anywhere. At night, Revolucion Ave & Zona Norte (red light) can get rowdy. If you go to these places, go on the weekend while it is busy, and other Americans are there.
So, learn a little Spanish, and make sure you know the currrency rate as to avoid getting "robbed".

oh lets see. Staying in tijuana is about the same as going to East Los angeles and spending a night there, trying to survive drive by shootings and rapists. There are gangs running rampid there. Don't even waste your time thinking about going there, just full of idiots that make everything hard for amreicans by hopping the border

About as safe as being in the Amazon Jungle at nite!!!!
