Hurricane season in Cancun? |
I'm thinking about planning a trip to Cancun in August. Is this hurricane season there? Any info on weather at this time of year?

Yes, August is hurricane season in Cancun. Hurricane season for the Gulf of Mexico runs from June to November. The weather there at this time of year is usually quite pleasant, but these storms can stir up at any time during this season. The good news is that you generally have plenty of warning, though the odd storm has been known to form from weather patterns completely in the Gulf instead of tropical waves from Africa. And seeing as how Cancun is at the tip of the Yucatan Peninsula, it is a prime target for any southern bearing storms that do make it into the Gulf. I would ask about a refund or rebooking policy in case of hurricanes. |

technically hurricane season is June-November here in the Gulf. I know I live in Pensacola Florida and have been hit by many, but the link below says cancun is windy and rainy September-November. |

Yes, August is hurricane season. Its more of a crap shoot though. First year I went, on the flight back, we had to divert over Texas because of a hurricane spinning in the gulf. The second year, I had to be taken to a mall on the main land cause hurricane Emily decided to come through. I only lost 2 days of my vacation because of it. All I can really say it mother nature cannot be predicted. Book it and hope for the best. |
