I'm driving to Mexico (Rocky Point) and all I have is my ID and a birth record. Will they take it? |
I took what I thought was my birth certificate from my parents but apparently it was my birth record. It has the same information as the certificate and has a state seal but apparently is a different form. My parents can't find the certificate and I can't get a new one by this weekend.
Will my drivers license and the birth record work to get there and back over the border? I also have my social security card. Additional Details Thanks for the help so far. The seal on my birth record is NOT raised so according to the state department rep I talked to they will not accept it.
Looks like it's birth certificate or nothing for me. |

You shouldn't have a problem DRIVING back if all you have is your Drivers License or ID. Here is the info:

Hi,
To cross the Mexican Border will not be a problem. On your return you will have to have identification. Passport works the best, however, you will not have a problem using your Drivers License. Make sure you answer all the questions correctly and don't joke around with the US Agents. I don't know what has taken place after 911, but these people are very, very serious about their jobs. Enjoy |

Check your facts when are reading some of the replies to your question. Alot of people are telling very wrong and obviously have no clue.
I just crossed the border again this weekend and all you need is your photo ID and original birth certificate (It must have the raised seal). This applies to all cases except when you fly in which case you are reuired a passport. If you are going to stay more then 72 hours or leave the border zones you need a tourist card, you MUST ask for one of these when you cross, there will not be people walking around passing them out. The cost for the card is about $23 USD and the entire process takes about 10 mins.
The only thing you will need to have beyond what I mentioned because you are driving is proof of ownership of your vehicle which they may or may not ask you for but you need none the less, if the vehicle is not paid for you may as well be asked for a letter of authorization from the lein holder to take the car across the border. People will suggest you buy Mexico Insurance while you are there, that is really a judgement call, if you are in a bad accident you will need it if your policy doesnt cover you there (most dont) however if you are in a fender bender the rule of thumb is not to get the policia involved anyway so what need is the insurance when the other person runs from the scene anyway.. Most people I know take the risk, but again its completely up to you.
Another thing I noticed though I cant explain it, I crossed into the states later Saturday night, and it took maybe 5 mins to cross the border, the agent glanced at my ID asked me why I was there, if I had a good time and that was it. I talked to a trolly drive that makes the trip 5 or 6 times a day from TJ and he said lately you do better by crossing late at night. In years past it wasnt like that at all...
If you have any other questions at all please feel free to ask me, I hope you have a great time! |
