What Tam Tam said & Chichen Itza is very impressive but it will be an entire day away from the beach so it may not be for you. Tulum is smaller and less impressive than Chichen Itza but much closer and it has a beutiful beach setting.

Also, to the person who recomended Palenque, while impresive I'm sure, it's about 9 or 10 hours drive from Cancun.

There are many fun things to do in Cancun/ Playa del Carmen. Check out playatrips.com to look at some of the tours in detail. The jungle tour is nice in Cancun if you like to snorkel. You may want to check out some of the Hotels in Playa for your Honeymoon, unless you want to party with a whole lot of teenagers and twenty somethings, a bit like non stop spring break at night in Cancun. Maybe a couple of days in Cancun and a few in Playa. I like Playa Del Carmen much better, much more laid back and the town is great. More small bars and hang outs. Cancun has a big club scene. Playa is also right across from Cozumel (ferry to and from, $20.00 pp round trip) and closer to all of the tour sites. Only a 5min. taxi ride to Xcaret.

Don't miss Xcaret, it's a really beautiful park where you can swim with dolphins and go thru an amazing underground river! Also, I strongly recommend the incredible Chichen Itza and Palenque pyramids, as well as a short boat trip to Isla Mujeres. There are a lot of places where you can snorkel with thousands of colored fishes. Surely you'd wish to take some pictures under the sea!!

The top things to do depend upon what you're into. Between the beaches and the nightclubs, you can find plenty to do. Get to Fat Tuesday's on Tuesday night. I suggest you include a day trip to Playa del Carmen and Cozumel. You should also keep in mind though that September is the start of hurricane season along Mexico's coasts.

You have plenty of time so write to the tourist agency in Cancun and ask for brochures. Have fun looking at them
