I'm living in Mexico for a few months. What places should I visit? What's great in certain cities?

Thank you very much! I want to travel as much as possible and see more of the country, the culture, the history and nature... everything!
Additional Details
Thank you for the concern about safety. I'm aware of what's going on in the border areas and will be smart when I travel. :)

I'd ask in advance that if you have only negative things to say about Mexico, don't bother answering. Because 95% of the country is great. It's very few areas that are having problems. (Of course you didn't say this, Bubbles; it just reminded me of all the negative press lately!)

An itinerary should include Queretaro, San Miguel de Allende and Guanajuato. The towns are near each other, so it cuts down on travel time. These are all excellent colonial towns with day trips to nearby smaller towns possible. The pair of Morelia and Patzcuaro are good for the same reasons. They are very different places. Morelia is the most European looking city in Mexico and Patzcuaro is sometimes called the most Mexican town in the country.

There are so many places that could be named:
Zacatecas, San Luis Potosi, Guadalajara, Puebla, Mexico City, Taxco, Xalapa, Oaxaca...

Take a look at my photos to get more ideas.

I think you should go to Guanajutato. I have been there last summer to visit my cousins :) The main attraction is Cristo Rey del Cubilete (Christ the King Shrine). I have been there and dang is that thing tall!! i thnk you should see that! Althoguh to some people the city might seem 'poor' but its really nice.

Shop for silver in Taxco, shop for onyx in Puebla, shop for a wide variety of crafts in Tlaquepaque and Oaxaca. Many artists live and work in San Miguel de Allende and Ajijic.

Mazatlan - El Centro area is being restored; Angela Peralta Theatre is 135 years old and hosts many concerts (likely Oct-Apr).
Great sunsets in any Pacific resort as the sun sets over the ocean!

I have to admit Mexico City is not a place I could recommend due to the smog and incredible difficulty in getting around. It does have many interesting places to see but at a high cost.

Mexico's department of Tourism has designated what are known as Pueblos Magicos - Magic Cities. I would start there. when you find some that sound interesting, get the Moon Guides or Lonely Planet Guides for those areas.

There's a lot of issues in Mexico, I've been hearing on the news. I don't know where to visit, but I do know you need to be very careful there.
