I've never travel out of US.If trouble broke out in Mexico.Would US close the border?

And for how long?Is it common for US to just close border at times? Our church wants to do a mission trip in June.I'm not worried much over being shot or kidnapped.I'm worried about getting stuck down there for weeks.Who knows maybe I should worry about being shot?

The US will not close the border to returning US citizens no matter how bad the situation in Mexico is. Unless they were to impose some sort of "Cuba like" travel restriction, but the chances of that are nil.

How safe is it for a bus load of Americans to be cruising the back roads from village to village? That's the more important question.

If trouble broke out??? With 6500 deaths last year in Northern Mexico , Baghdad looks like Disneyland in comparison to the border zone. If you want an idea of what MIGHT HAPPEN , read "The Next War" by Caspar Weinberger ex SecState. Be very cautious as to where your mission trip is going to lead you. See also the State Dpt. advisory about Mexico. The situation is far more serious than you think.

haahaha, American news scare the hell out of Americans. Thanks to the gread demand of drugs in your country Mexico has to deal with the problems. You are safe in Mexico as long as you don't go to places like Ciudad Juarez, Tijuana. Tourist places are very safe. My sister is in Mexico City and she says everything is fine. Don't be scared, and your cuntry will never CLOSE its borders. You can always get someone to smuggle you to the other side, like many have. :D jk

US will never deny the entry to a US citizen

For what it's worth department.... The U.S. Border was shut down immediately after 9/11....
I know...I was stuck there for awhile.....
You don't state where you're going..... some border areas are far more hazardous than others.....
