The Zetas are a group of hired guns (ex- and current military and police personnel) that the cartels are using to intimidate the border area towns so they can keep doing business as usual with their trafficking business. There are certain pockets in Southern Mexico that are drug producing and thus have some Zeta activity too, but it is primarily a border issue. If you go to the interior parts or if you stay away from the seedier parts along the border you should be fine. If you go looking for drugs or into seedy neighborhoods after dark you could run into trouble, but that is anywhere in the world. You might run into the same thing if you were to walk a couple of blocks off the Miracle Mile in Chicago. Look for trouble and it will find you.

Illegal Eagle
Are you a defector from this gang?

I live in Mexico and I have not had a single problem with crime or gangs.

Gata de Barrio
Hummm.. I'm gonna look out the window. *looks out the window*

Um.. no, no gangstas dudes carrying mumbo jumbo big guns and stuff. Hrmm... I guess they really aren't in every single acre of land in the entirety of Mexico (which is a huge country I must add).

I've lived in Mexico City for about 15 years and I've only seen 1 civilian carrying a gun ONCE (Mexico has kind of tight gun-purchasing laws) and the guy was just walking across the street not bothering anyone at all. He didn't look like a military dude either.

Unless you're going to a shoddy neighborhood somewhere, I don't see you ever encountering such people.

two important facts you should know:

1.- If you are NOT a member of the Pacific's Cartel (Sinaloa's gangsters) you won't have problems with the "zetas" (from the Gulf's Cartel, those are enemies and are in war).

2.- If this is some kind of joke, bad idea. You shouldn't mention this the to keep yourself safe. This is not a matter of jokes, and most uf us (in México) are NOT involved in that war and violence.

all that gang stuff is media hype; You won't see gang members, but you will see military service men driving around in jeeps on patrol

Unless you are involved with organized crime, law enforcement or the press you have nothing to fear from Los Zetas. You give yourself too much credit.
