After June 2009, everyone must have a passport to travel to Mexico by LAND as well as by AIR...so you will need to use you passport from your home country. See site below and read section under "Lawful Permanent Residents." In 2nd site, see section on "International travel."

if you are a resident alien here in the u.s you are still a mexican citizen, unless you are a wanted man in mexico and cant return. a passport is for a citizen to return to their country of origin....you are a mexican citizen and should be able to show your mexican voter registration card or some sort of picture id if you need to, in mexico...... to come back, if you have permenent residency here in the u.s, you shouldnt have a problem. if you are here illegally and go to mexico you wont be allowed to legally cross back
