Hello, There is NO health RISK in this area. There are NO travel alerts for this area. The strong flu is all over the world, not just Mexico city. Please call me directly in Cancun at 1-888-335-1996 I have lived here 8 years. Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an idiot, plain and simple.

For a good parallel case look at the historical record of the Spanish Flu of 1918-1919.

You will get a good idea of how flu travels and can jump 1,000 miles from Mexico DF to the resorts in days, if not hours.

Anyone that tells you it is okay to go is just guessing. Be careful and be cautious.

The Spanish Flu killed 40 to 50 million (some estimates up to 100 million) people in about 8 weeks before it subsided. The worlds population in 1918 was 1.8 billion, today it is (6,776,019,535) 6.8 billion. This strain of flu if it runs the path of the Spanish Flu could kill (1761765079) 1.8 Million people worldwide.

Wait and see.

I just answered another question like this. My husband and I are leaving for Cancun on the 10th of May. There was a case that was reported today of students from New York that went to CANCUN two weeks ago and returned with positive tests for the swine flu virus.July is a while out, I would say continue with your trip, by then people will have a much better understanding of what is going on, and how it can be prevented. Good luck.

isa,
i don't think u should cancel there aren't any cases near Cancun, so i think u should go. i hear there were 2 cases in new york of the flu thingy so i don't see the problem.

So far all the cases have been in the states of San Luis Potosí, Hidalgo, Querétaro and Mexico state, all in central Mexico--a thousand miles away from the beach resorts of the Yucatan.

The flu outbreak is in it's early stages, so we don't know how fast it may spread. I would call the 800 number on the website below and talk to them about travel insurance--then you could back out and not loose so much money.

No one knows how this will play out, but the airlines and the Mexican government are being very careful. If this gets more serious, scientists say they can develop a vaccine very quickly. There are no confirmed cases in the resort areas.

Here is a good site for current information.
