As of January 1, 2007 all international travelers must have a valid passport, so if you dont have one. get one, and allow 6-8 weeks to get it.
Until then have a birth certificate (little feet dont fly: so make sure it is state/government issued, it cannot be from the hospital with your footprint on it)
An UNEXPIRED picture ID
and if you are married you must have your marriage liscense.
-or-
if your name does not match the one one your birth certificate with the one on your ID (last name)
you must have proof of the name change.
IF you somehow get through to mexico without these documents when customs in mexico finds out, you WILL be on the first flight back to the US! No exceptions! |

right now you just need picture ID and birth certificate but pretty soon you will need a passport to go to Mexico, Caribbean, and Canada
This is from Mexonline.com:
If you are from the U.S. or Canada, you will need your passport or notarized birth certificate with state issued ID. You will also need a tourist card unless you are traveling for less than 72 hours within the border zone (usually no further than 20 miles south of the U.S. border except in Baja California and Sonora which have extended their zones).
NOTE: If you are arriving by airline or cruise, your Tourist Card fee will be charged in the cost of your package or fare, and they will give you your tourist card to fill out for Customs when you land. |

After January you will have to have a passport. Until then, you need a COPY of your birth certificate and a voter's registration card. Take a state-issued picture ID too, of course, like a drivers license. Yes, a passport will get you through customs faster but I don't think you have time. You could go to the Post Office and ask. Be Safe and enjoy your stay! oh, and go armed with Immodium! |

If you're leaving August first, it's too late to get one now. Except if you do the ultra-rush (pay more money) version and then it won't be guaranteed by then anyway.
You can get into and out of Mexico by picture ID now but you'll need a passport starting next year, unless they change their minds again. |
