It is safe.
Not liking Americans doesn´t mean we are going to hurt or maim them, plus most people hate the US, the troops, the american politics and such, but each individual is a person and just because you are born somewhere doesn´t mean you should be hated.
You will have fun and unless you pass out on the street and get run over, it will be ok. |

of course it is safe for Americans to come to Mexico. I am Mexican and i don't treat people differently just because they are from a certain country. And as the person on top said, just treat everyone as you would like to be treated and there you go... have a great surf trip.. michoacan is actually a very pretty place... |

It is like everywhere, there are nice people and rude people, but in general the hospitality is normal.
But the same , if you meet rude people, they just will tell nonsense, (I live in Switzerland and I visited Napa on my vacations, some people throw on my face garbage and screamed: "go back to Mexico..." Like you can see, I am still alive).
Do not worry a lot, and prepare yourself to enjoy your vacations. Just inform yourself about the times and areas where is sure to go, and never show a lot of money in public areas. The state which you chose is wonderful, I hope you take your time to visit more of it.

People from Michoacan are really nice people, and as with any place there are places you need to avoid. Not everyone has the mentality that most of the American people do against people from another country. I have found that on my travels they are more welcoming, and friendly. I have been to Michoacan many times to visit family. It is a beautiful place to visit, I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have mine. |

It is safe and the great majority of Mexicans like Americans. Be courteous, smile a lot, learn a little Spanish before you come. Treat others as you would like to be treated and you will have a great time. I am an American living in Mexico ( NOT in a tourist area), and I find the Mexican people to be friendly and courteous the great majority of the time. There is an occasional rude or grumpy one just like anywhere, but there is no predominent negative attitide toward "norteamericanos." |

No- Michoacan is pretty safe. Try to stay in the tourist areas mainly or at least pretty populated areas. In my experience, Mexicans do not dislike Americans- they are generally very nice and friendly towards them. |
