I am going to Queretro, Queretro Mexico. It is my 1st time out of the country. Wat do i need to know?

Juan Ramon had some good points, but 600,000 is not a small city.

Queretaro is well run and considered by many as the cleanest city in Mexico. While it is large it doesn't have a big city feel. The large historic center is very appealing and is my favorite place in Mexico to be at night.

One area not mention in guidebooks that I like is the river front just north of the center.

are you going whit an agency or by your selff?

if are you going by your sel you need somebody that could help you whit directions and orientation in the transportation
that's the most important thing contact somebody that hep you
if you find a local beater
the transportation in Mexico is cheap

the city of queretaro is no to big you can have information of maps and touristic information by the net

anyway there is a lot of thing that you can do and learn In that place

and don't worry to much about the food and water any person that had travel over there can tell you

and have a nice trip

Queretaro is a small city. It is probably around 600,000
inhabitants. I wouldn't advice drinking tap water, not because its dangerous, but because water here is a little harder than most people like. Downtown Queretaro is full with historical buildings, specially former convents and churches. There are also a lot of restaurants and plazas worth visiting there.

A meal in a typicall "fonda" will cost around 35 pesos. It will include a small serving of soup, small serving of pasta or rice, a main dish with small salad and beans, a very small simple dessert, tortillas or bread and agua fresca. Agua fresca is sweetened water flavored with fruit juice or some other ingredient, like hibiscus or tamarind concentrate or rice flouer.

Most comercial activity is in the stores in downtown area and in the four bigger malls (Galerias Queretaro, Plaza Boulevares, Plaza del Parque, and Galerias Queretaro.)

Public transport buses in the city are 5 pesos per trip, regardless of where you get on and off. There is an international airport about 20 miles from the city and a bus station with lines operation to most major cities. A taxi can cost anywhere from 20 to 60 pesos.

Nearby touristy towns and places of interest include the Misions of the Sierra Gorda, San Miguel de Allende, Bernal, Tequisquiapan, and the Freixenet Winery.

The closest cities are Mexico City, San Luis PotosÃ, and Celaya.

In August there is a lot of rain in the afternoons. October thru February are somewhat cool. The rest of the year is hot and dry.

Queretaro is one of the least corrupt states in the country. You can usually trust police officers here.
