I am going to be traveling to a dangerous area of Mexico for my job, help?

Next week, a week from today, I am going to be traveling to Mexico for my job. I am going to be traveling back and forth between San Diego and Tijuana for a few days.
My company has arranged for personal taxis to take us from our hotel room door to the building we are going to in Tijuana. We never have to walk outside if we don't want to other then from the car to the front door. I am really scared though. I have taken out travel insurance in the even that I die my family will get about $1,000,000 yadda yadda.
I really want to know how to dress and act though so I do not draw attention to myself. I need to look professional, but I do not want to look like I have money or am anyone important. I just want people to not notice me at all.

How should I dress and act?

I am Mexican and live since 12 years in Europe. I was very nervous the last time I went home last year, because the news and friends were talking about the high criminality rates...

To make it short: I lived 18 years of my life in my country, include last year during my vacations, nobody do me anything. And here in the boring Switzerland I were attacked 2 times...

I do not think that you have to be close all the time. Just ask in the hotel which times and places are safe (I did it when I went to Chicago, and it is always useful).

What I never do, when I am in Mexico is to carry expensive jewelry, shoes or bags. I distribute my money in different places: jeans, shirt, purse, etc. I never take with me important documents, and relax (who is nervous is because, he has something importante to hide...).

I wish you could enjoy your trip!

hey mexico is not as bad as what you see at the tv.
just act normal wear your regular clothes, and go to work.
the only thing you have to beware of is the drug gangs but dont look anyone in a bad way and the knife is not a good idea....
i think your company is taking good care of you so you shouldnt be worried.

Chill mate, as they've already said, things aren't as bad as the TV shows. Drug gang members are killing each other but usually they don't mess with normal citizens. As they already said, just try not to stand out or carry valuable stuff on you and you should be fine, since you already have the transportation arranged.

I had to drive into MX (Mexicali, Tijuana, Tecate, Ensenada) over 80 times in 5 years for my job.
I never had a problem except for a crooked cop in Tecate.
You shouldn't have a problem if you use Common Travelers Sense.
Better to ask your question on this website
www.bajanomad.com
There, the answers come from frequent traveleres to Baja and from those that actually live there.
Good luck....

im mexican and just i say "take care"

is it possible to take like a bag with you with nice clothes where ever you're going and change at whatever place you need to be? if you can i'd do that otherwise like you said don't go out just go from your hotel room to the taxi. I know what you mean though I have family over there and people from the states stand out no matter what just act normal be yourself where hoodies if you can. what part of mexico are you going to? you say "us" in your question so does this mean you will be with other people? the best you guys or you can do is just be yourself act like you normally would and if you meet people over there don't invite them back to your hotel or anything try to enjoy it dont stress it. deff dont wear a suit and dark sun glasses that'll make you stand out as if you were the president or something lol. just wear jeans and a t . or if you have to dress i guess "nice" do it and like i said wear a hoodie or coat to kinda disguise it

Ladie Bonilla<3
I have been to Tijuana and it is scary lol. But i suggest you dress normal not too fancy though. If you have a suit on and look like a business man trust me they will follow you everywhere asking you for money! I suggest you have your own car because you cannot trust most taxis over there. Or if your going in a car just dress in your suit or something if its safe were you are going. Hope i helped

sam
Taking into consideration the gang-wars because of the drugs and drug cartel violence occuring, just be safe. Don't wear flashy suits, wear slacks and a regular T-Shirt, then put on a shirt and coat when reaching your destination. Don't give anyone bad looks, just be cool.

it isnt that bad in Mexico, it is just really over exaggerated on t.v. and the news. just dress like you normally would and nothing will go wrong, you only have to walk 10 feet.
Also DONT carry a knife because if they are going to attack you they wont stop at a knife and probably have one themselves. If you want protection bring pepper spray, it is the most effective and you cant really hurt the person and get charged or even go to court.
