1) Stone Island - you can take a water taxi there from the port. You can spend a whole day there relaxing and enjoying a Corona.
2) Malacon is a beach on the way to the old town.It's by the main drag, so there will be no privacy there.
3) Another beautiful beach in Mazatlan is in Estrella Del Mar, It's very close to the airport, but far from the town. The beach is completely empty! (best access is through the golf course, just say you going to the restaurant) :) I am going there in March too :)

You want a pretty beach in Mazatlan. There are beaches everywhere...find an area behind a hotel and perhaps the beach will look nicer because it will be well-maintained and clean.
Although, read this article I found, step 12 talks about the beach- be careful, remember that different countries have different regulations on pollution and such:

Like they say, Stone Island or Estrella del Mar are good choices. Playa Bruja would be my only other reccomendation. |

What pier .... you mean the port? Coming in on a boat?
Stone Island water taxis leave from near the port entrance and that is good for walking. It's just across the harbor. Otherwise you go to north Mazatlan near the hotel zone - easy in a taxi |
