Well, I live in Cancun and am British, I am not leaving for love nor Money... even though I have a 1 year old daughter, I love it here and love my New Country as I have been settled here for almost 4 years now.

I don't believe all the Media Hype, and there are so many Ignorant reporters who quite clearly don't understand that Mexico and Mexico City are two completely different things... one being a huge Country, the second being the Biggest City in the world.

The very latest from the Cancun Tourism Board is this...

http://cancun.travel/en/2009/04/30/official-statement-facing-the-health-crisis-in-mexico-quintana-roo-strengthens-preventive-measures/

Preventative measures are in place, so you may find that the Disco's ect are closed, but hopefully this will all have blown over by the time you get to travel.

So many tourists have been frightened by the "Don't Travel to Mexico" statement that lots of them are canceling, luckily this is the Low season anyway, but the reporters and the tabloids are doing a massive disservice at present to all of the Tourist destinations here in Mexico.

I would rather be here in this warm place than further up north where it's cooler.

Anyway, if you are on a direct flight that doesn't stop in Mexico City, you shouldn't have any worries. Don't let the Press dictate your holiday.

If it would make you feel any safer bring some extra hand wipes with you and just avoid crowds.

Safe Journey.

My wife and I just returned from one of the Palace Resorts in Cancun today 4/29. While the resort was fabulous and the staff extremely friendly, there was an erie silence on the whole swine flu situation especially in fact that every 10 minutes on the CNN station there was an "update" on the situation that did little to give accurate info. The US media just wants to make a crisis and panic out of everything. We couldn't get any useful info regarding which specific area's in Mexico were possible souces of the virus from the US media except "Mexico" (which is a large country). As a US citizen (born and bred) what I find most upsetting is the fact that the airline and/or theses stupid polititans like Susan Collins from Maine and the entire US Government couldn't supply a 25 cent bottle of hand sanitizer and/or a 10 cent mask to all travelers on our flight coming into New England. It was amusing to see all fo the people on our flight get panicky everytime someone coughed or sneezed - $800 billion to Wall Street, but not one penny for Pandemic prevention on our flight. Regarding all of the posts from Mexico - I wouldn't believe any of them, they are just trying to restore their severely crippled tourism trade ( our flight, an A320, only off loaded 5 passengers before we all jumped on and tried not to cough).

Regarding your vacation, I would wait a few more days to see what happens - just like my wife I and are doing to see if we come down with the virus - no thanks to the US govenment.

Peace and long life.

I just came back from Cozumel, had no problems and had a great time. Just take the normal precautions, that you would normally do. Maybe take some extra hand sanitizer. Have fun

There is NO Health RISK in this area at all. There are NO Travel Alerts are issued for this area at all. The strong swine type of flu is all over the world now, not just Mexico City. The W.H.O. says, "To restrict travel would be useless and not helpful". Please call me directly in Cancun at robert@cancuncatamarans.com or 1-888-335-1996. I have lived here 8 years. Anyone that says Mexico is not safe is an uninformed fear-monger and not a very smart person. They are only out to spread fear without knowing the facts, plain and simple.

I wouldn't go right now.

thats where the flu started!way to pick em
