I am looking for great place to snorkel on Pacific side of Mexico---Gulf of Cortez is fine?

I went to Cabo---best beach---water was rough. Been other places---I am 61 and have bad legs so want water that is very calm. Also, I want the water warm---about 80 degrees fine and I want to snorket from beach or hotel---not go out in boat. What is the best month to travel and do you know a good hotel?

I would recomend something like Cancun, Cozumel, or Playa del Carmen.

These are clear, light sand waters. The ocean is alittle shallow, so you can even walk for about 500 meters in the ocean. You'll se coral reefs, colorful fish, maybe some dolphins also. Plus you get a view underwater for about 200 meters clearly seeing!

It's not that expensive, is warmer, and easier to move around.

If you want something more virgin try Huatulco, in Oaxaca, same benefits, but less péople.

Not sure where you went snorkeling in "Cabo". The most well-known spots in the Los Cabos corridor are Bahia Santa Maria and Bahia Chileno. I also like Pelican Rock near Playa del Amor.

Of those three, the first, Santa Maria, would likely have the calmest water. This bay is adjacent to the Hotel Twin Dolphin. If I recall correctly, this picture is of Santa Maria Bay:

Near La Paz, I like snorkeling around the islands just offshore - my favorite being snorkeling with the sea lions at Isla Partida. This, of course, requires a boat ride (you used to be able to hire a boat from the restaurant at Playa Tecolote.

I've enjoyed snorkeling at Cabo Pulmo (East Cape) & Punta Arena de la Ventana (SE of La Paz) as well.

You should make this same question/inquiry on the forums at bajanomad.com as well.

Try San Carlos Bay, it's a great place and fits your requirements. On the other hand.... have you ever considered Cancun?

Did you snorkel in Cabo? I'm guessing not as you said the waters are rough and more for fishing, surfing, diving, etc.

This will be the same down in La Paz. I actually have a friend down there. If you want the calm water I would strong suggest the Mayan Riviera area which is South of Cancun. This way you are on the Caribbean side with beautiful aqua water, ocean almost like bath water, white sand beaches and best of all if you stay by the town of Playa Del Carmen which is in the Mayan Riviera area then you can take a ferry over to Cozumel and they have some of the best snorkeling and diving in the world. Course I do know from the last year hurricanes I’m sure there was some coral damage in certain areas.

The best months, but yet because there the best are also more expensive are to go Dec - May where as to June - Nov. is technically hurricane season even though some of those months tend to not be as active, hurricanes aside in the summer the weather can be very hot instead of just 80 degrees.

There are several hotels all along that stretch and in all honesty without asking you questions I couldn't say which hotel would be best for you because one hotel is great for one person, but not great for another.

I would be happy to assist you with your travel arrangements if you like, feel free to email me and I can send you my contact info. Even if not through me though I would strongly suggest using a good knowledgeable agent who can help you in getting exactly what you want for your holiday.

No matter how you do end up booking it I hope you have a fantastic time no matter where you go!
