You should have a RECEIPT for your passport application. Go to the website below. Scroll down to the section titled "How does this affect me?" Read and follow the instructions there precisely to get a passport waiver. This should solve your problem. Hope this all works out well for you.

I think first you need to chill. Mexico is a slower paced atmoshere and culture, so relax and you can go to Mexico! O.K?
But your procrastination will not help in the future. The U.S. administration made another mistake, and thus has extended the date for mandatory passports to Mexico and Canada. This is a post 9/11 era, and passports will only rise in price. All Americans will need one eventually if they ever want to travel. They last 10 years. Get one.

You're in luck. The need to have a passport to return from Mexico has just been put on hold. Check on the US Travel site. It will give the specifics. You might also want to check with your travel agent. They should know the specific rules for your particular travels.

I applied 3/10, and my passports arrived 6/6. My flight was 6/7. We had to call MULTIPLE times to get through, just dial over and over and over... we spoke with three different agents... it was a sincere pain.

Just keep calling. Also you can email them to request the status. I understand they've temporarily lifted the need for passports into Mexico, but I'd definately call to check with the passport people.

If you applied at the post office, like I did, they should have stamped a copy of proof of application and handed it back to you. You don't have that either? Yikes.

Well I have been waiting since March for my childrens passports. Depends on where you live but call in the early morning to the passport office. You have to be VERY persistent keep calling and calling..It took me about 20+ times to get through...My childrens info was just posted in the website ..It was a month after they cashed my check to see my kids info put into the system.. I still havent gotten ther passports..I am leaving next week....
