I believe that Mexico sucks, What do you think?

I am currently living in Cabo San Lucas BCS in Mexico, I came here with my wife because she has a place and works here. Yet It is hard not to notice how bad Mexicans run their cities here, Cabo San Lucas is a Tourism magnet and it is so mainly because of more than 13 Billion dollars in Investment by private Americans and still they (the local Mexican government) do not know how to deal with basic issues such as sewage problems, and it does not only go on in the residential areas of town, it happens in down town Los Cabos where all the tourist go to.
Have you been to Los Cabos? If so, do you think the American community here (about 15,000) should have more of a say so regarding this social problems?
Baja is what is it mainly due to American Investment, Does anyone disagree? That said, Mexicans just complicate matters with their incompetence. I believe Mexican should step back a little and let us handle business for them; in return we should maybe give them something such as the privile

What the local governments in Mexico should do is collect property taxes based on the market value of the property. Municpial taxes are ridiculouly low in Mexico, no wonder there are no pesos for municipal infrastructure upgrades.

For big developments, the municipality should charge a per unit construction tax to pay for upgrades to service these developments.

Well , Hearty has the best answer. You see , the biggest reason why Mexico still a poor country is because ther is a poor structure in our administration system,... there has been millions of dollars poored into Cabo, but the local goverment don´t have enough money to solve problems like that , because the money they spend in permits and taxes probably end up in La Paz, and in the Cabos municipality budget a mayor investment in infraestructure will never appear since the money went to something else, like high salarys of burocrats or something like that.

When you move to another country, you must accept their way of life, their government, etc. as is. You can not change another country/government/people/etc.

The Americans have invested in something that already is. For the American investors to have it "The American Way" they would have to tear down everything and start from the ground up putting in "american" plumbing, electric, etc. In their own little USA city in Mexico - and that isn't going to happen.

You can scream all you want to about not being able to put TP down the toilet or the sewage that has been overflowing the street with no one coming to fix the problem. But it won't change. Where you do have a voice is in your own country. The ability to vote, to make a voice, to change.

You could move back to the US where you would have the ability to make a difference as a US citizen. Oh, sorry, I forgot - your WIFE has a job there. Whatever happened to MEN taking care of there WOMEN instead of typing on the internet their boohoo story about where their WIFE has decided they should live? Of course, you could become a Mexican citizen... Then, instead of complaining; you could start working to make a difference in your residency of CHOICE.

It's not as bad as living in Los Angeles, California. Now don't get me started on that!

I disagree... at least with the part about Mexico stepping back and letting Americans run things in those resort areas. It is Mexico, and if investors have problems with the government or whatever they shouldn't invest there.

Personally I spend alot of time in Baja California and love it, but I haven't lived there.

Im just like u! I think the same way! I spend months at a time in mexico! U know why we think like that cause we como from the U.S and we see how better things are run their and when we go to mexico it seems like its in slow motion or they seem to make u do things 3-4 time more then one is supposed to! I go to the banks and it seems like they dont care about customer service, and dont get me going on shopping for things! Iv been to Cabo! But what can we do,were in Mexico,we cant complain! I used to complain to family and friends on how things their suck and how bad the government run things,u know what they said? Get out of here and dont come to Mexico if the U.S is so great!! And its true, why complain,we cant fix anything in Mexico!! So why complain? And about Mexico letting americans run alittle more mexico, como on,do u think americans will let mexico run their country? Yeah right! We just have to go to mexico on vacation and then leave so we cant complain on all the bad things that happen their! But i get where ur coming from!

It is what it is!
If you change it it won't be Mexico, I love vacations in Mexico and would not change much if I could. The reason people travel to Mexico is because they like it as it is.
Probably not the best place to live, but for vacations and even investments it doesn't get much better.

We have a lot of problems a lot of Mexicans, like me are working to change this but its not easy. Anyway Maybe its bad but its ours, and we can handle it whatever we like it. If you dont like it, feel really free to get back wherever you came from.

I agree with your ideas about the problems but thats not the way. You have enough with Texas, Arizona and California.

If you as an American living here can see that kind of problems,
Just think in all the people living here that thinks the same.

-.-

ahm

The people is not the guilty, it's the governments guilty.

Unfortunately the people just think by themselves.

The Neoliberal Governs [PAN and PRI] thinks just like you, because you are an American raised on the Corporativism/Corporatism system, [corporations, not the governemnt, leads the country's economy] so this kind of governs [PRI and PAN] dont wanna take actions on the social issues, then they can defend under the arguments "we cant do all those thing that the society requests" so "bring the foreign money for solve our problems"

by the foreign money I mean: bring the external tech and money for solve our issues, but not to everybody, just a few companies... which will have agreements like I'll pick you, but you gonna give me some of that money because of choosing you.

The government could say that they havent money ...
When their wages must be around 15 to 25k USD monthly [depends on the range.]

A wage that contrasts with the "minimum wage" which consists in 5 USD daily.

So between a bad social protection [lack of this] and the "american way of life" you can find the mexico's issues.

I'm an American living in Nayarit right now and I couldn't agree more. I don't even want to get started on all the problems...there's not enough time in the day to say everything I want to but yeah, it's ridiculous how they take care of things here. I go around everyday in constant disbelief.

Ever since mexico earned it's freedom from spain it seems to have stuggled for some type of governmental structure. I personally have never been to mexico, but i have heard that there are many unsettled issues there, such as sewage, that are so simple here, in the US, that we take them forgranted. Mexico needs to come up with an strong central government and basic laws that are inforced everywhere before things such as sanitation will be taken care of. It seems that in history America has tried to assist mexico to some degree. The main point is that some country needs to help Mexico but of course america does not want to get caught up in another situation similar to our satus in the middle east.
