Hi, I´m from Mexico City, so I know what I`m talking about, I recommend you to visit cities like Cancun, Cozumel, Tulum, all of them at the Riviera Maya if you are interested in gorgeous beaches and lots of fun, in the other hand, if you like architectural and history sites, better visit Guanajuato city, finally talking about prehispanic sites I recommend you Teotihuacan and Tula both near from Mexico City. I think all those places are pretty safeties for tourist, and you will find tourist assistance, lets say safe places. If you are thinking in Mexico City, better think twice...

I have heard of jaywalkers getting life in jail, if they were American ciitzens.

As with any country there are some locations that have some crime but thats normal. I think Mexico has a lot to offer, beautiful beaches, beautiful colonial cities, big metropolitan cities, small picturesque towns, ancient ruins. I lived there for some years and never had any bad experiences.

Well there are some dangerous places in Mexico (Mexico city downtown is dangerous) but there are a lot other places that are pretty safe (Chihuahua for example). It is like all the other countries there are some safe places and some that are not. And if you are visiting then I don't think you will have a bad time. I have traveled a lot in Mexico and there are loads of fun.

Not at all.

Like anywhere else, it all matters on just WHERE in Mexico you're planning to visit.

Like most places, it has it's undesirable areas, but it also is very beautiful. The beaches and water are breathtaking, and there is a lot to do. I've been several times and the people have always been helpful and friendly. Cancun is pretty. Cozumel is too. The mayan ruins are worth the trip. The best advice is that you stay close to your resort and know who your dealing with. It will make for a safe and fun experience. Have fun!

I just returned from Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico and it was great, I didn't want to leave. Before I left for Mexico, people kept telling me to watch my back, but I didn't have any problems with any people at all. The only problem I had was my own doing(I lost my passport). Mexico is not a bad place to visit, at least not where I was. Just don't lose your passport(I was lucky, I was still able to return to the states without much trouble)

I have been there twice & found it a great travel destination especially in the Yucatan.

Totally untrue, Mexico has too much to offer, if you go to Mexico city, i recommend the museums like Bellas Artes, Museo del Chopo, etc. Chapultepec, the CATEDRAL. another city could be Puebla, you can try the MOLE Poblano, visit the Zocalo at night, CACAXTLa, etc. Just try dont walk alone at night.

It's like any other place you travel to - they all have bad areas. I just returned from Playa del Carmen & it is so beautiful there & the people were so incredibly friendly that my friend & I are even considering moving there for a year!
