I here that its not safe to go to for americans to go to Mexico right now .? |
Is that anywhere in Mexico or just the resorts and border ? I have already bought tickets for me and my two children to visit my husbands family who live in a small town 2 hours from Mexico city .
I'm a little worried now though and don't know if we should go now or not .the flight is in August I would hate to over react and loss so much money.

You'll be 100 percent safe in Mexico hundreds of miles away from the Mexican border..
The only real problem in Mexico are in the six states that border the US:
Baja California
Sonora
Chihuahua
Coahuila
Nuevo Leon
Tamaulipas
Outside of those states, Mexico is safer than any big city in the USA.
There will probably be more murders and robberies in Houston, Tx, this summer, than there will be in the other twenty-five states of Mexico combined.

people need to get as much education as they can on the current situation. with over 6,000 murders last year and over 1000 so far to date i will not believe they are all drug related. innocents are being caught in the crossfire, kidnapped and forced into aiding the narcos and corrupt cops. mexicans who are in danger have been moving to the u.s. trying to escape but the narcos are very good at finding them and killing them here or back in mexico. read the latest issue of "Men's Journal" for a harrowing tale of an american families ordeal at the hand of some bad guys. women especially should be aware that over several years 300-400+ women have gone missing or been found in the desert raped and murdered. if you go there, i guess you are into "adventure travel" no matter what your plans are. good luck and be safe!!!!! |

well my friends and i have also booked a trip to cancun mexico for spring break . and we have heard the travel warnings, however the agency we booked with isnt letting us cancel. were full time colleg students that really cant afford the loss of so much money ... were unsure of the seriousness of the crim e in our destination area.
but i have heard that most crime and concern is closer to the border . |

Me and my three kids usually go every summer to visit my husbands family. But it is so bad right now we are not going to risk it. I would rather lose the money than lose my kids. Please don't risk it. Hopefully it will be better next summer. |

As long as your not near any border cities you are ok! I was just their for carnival Feb 14th-28th in Merida Yucatan and there was not one problem or situation that arose. I have relatives that work for the newspaper there and besides killings near the USA, Mexico border and Mexico City they say there are no worries. Its a election year there that is why these warnings are being given to Americans. |

I don't know how much clearer the STATE DEPT. can make it... The TRAVEL WARNING that was issued last week says the ENTIRE COUNTRY OF MEXICO IS UNSAFE and the GOVERNMENT IS IN DANGER OF COLLAPSE.. and that ALL TRAVEL BY AMERIKAN CITIZENS IS DISCOURAGED... that seems pretty clear to me.
This is not something that just happened overnight. I have gone to Mexico every year for the past 10 years and did not go this past year because the previous year, I was in an RV Park on the East Coast and the Mexican Military and the Drug Dealers (they looked like MS-13 types) had a shoot out just outside the RV park about 3AM.. complete with AUTOMATIC WEAPONS and DEAD BODIES ALL OVER THE PLACE...
After that experience, I decided to not go to Mexico any more until things settle down.. and I AM FLUENT IN SPANISH.. if you are NOT fluent in Spanish I would warn you that you wouldn't understand if someone was yelling at you to GET DOWN or TAKE COVER or even STOP YOUR CAR. |

Any american going into Mexican territory right now is inviting trouble. If he commits the stupidity of crossing in his car he is inviting: car jacking, extorsion by immigration, customs and police authorities, robbery and being shot at point blank range. Stay away; the warning of the State Dpt. was much too soft for diplomatic reasons, not to hurt the Mexicans. |

It's never safe to go to MX. I went last week to Reynosa, Tamaulipas. There's a lot of crazy drivers! It depends where yr going tho. |
