If you are young and into the bar scene, then Cabo or Cancun are probably as good as any places to visit although Cancun is as expensive as Chicago.

If you are into snorkeling, then Cozumel is really great.

If you are into vegging out, doing a little sightseeing, an all-inclusive in Riviera Maya might be the best bet and all your costs would be known in advance.

And I agree that Oaxaca is an outstanding place for the beauty of the place.

Since you do not know Mexico and since there are so many place, I suggest you contact a local travel agent who can help you to choose the destination you want for an unforgettable time.

I've been to Puerto Vallarta, and recently got back from Cabos San Lucas on 6/19/06. I enjoyed Cabos much better. Stay at an all- adult hotel if possible. Pueblo Bonito Pacifica was awesome, take a light sweater, it does get breezy there. Downtown gets really hot though. Or stay at Palmilla.

Hi, I suggest you fly to : Huatulco Bays in Oaxaca State.
A paradise located on the Southern Pacific Coast of Mexico, where nine beautiful bays of brilliant indigo waters were found. With the imponent Sierra Madre del Sur as a backdrop, their 36 wild beaches offer a paradise secluded from the rest of the world by 21,000 hectares of lush vegetation. Huatulco offers natural sceneries that invite you to practice activities related to ecotourism and extreme sports. Your Huatulco vacations will be full of adventure and beautiful beaches at a calm and natural ambiance.

Description

Until the early 1980's this group of nine interlocking bays had only an isolated fishing-village, with no water or electricity and was accessible by a dirt path. The terrain is formed by the rugged Sierra Madre del Sur, abutting the Pacific to create sandy coves. The lively services village of La Crucecita is good for bars and restaurants and budget hotels.

In 1983 the first luxury hotels and a six-lane road network were built, soon followed by an airport, golf course and marina. But for the moment, Huatulco remains pleasantly undeveloped. So far, there are three structured bays: Tangolunda which is the most exclusive, Chahue which is still embryonic and Santa Cruz, where amenities are clustered around the marina.

Huatulco meets with a high level urban infrastructure that follows international standards of quality and environmental protection, as well as great respect for the regional architecture and its natural surroundings.

Ooh... nice one! ;-)... in cabo san lucas... stay at the intercontinental resort..it's a really nice place to stay in. =).. but ... erm, just saying, the beaches there are somewhat cold... and the tides high... when we went we couldn't really swim in the beach. cancun is just too full of tourists. acapulco and puerto vallarta are my personal favorites. and... if you're not planning on a beach, why not mexico city? it's a really interesting place to visit! =D it's awesome.

TINKERTOY ..... the 1 & only
My first two choices would be Cancun and Cabo. Cancun has more activities and many many more hotel and restaurant choices. Cancun beaches are much better than Cabo. I would skip Cozumel unless you just want to snorkle or scuba. There' s not much else in Cozumel.

From what I saw in Puerta Vallarta and Acapulco, I would skip both of them too.

My job had their annual President's Club meeeting at the Westin in Cabo. Here's a link. They say occassionally celebs stay there as well. Good Luck.

You will be pleasantly pampered at the Pueblo Bonito (Sunset Beach Resort & Spa)---beautiful ocean view rooms carved into a hill top. Delicious Restaurants and/or quick room service---3 large pools with swim up bars ---the waiters and concierge (who escort you around on golf carts) are the best! You will also have free access to the other hotels admenities Pueblo Bonito (Rose) which offers the access to the beach. It's about 10 minutes from downtown Cabo---but once you are there you'll never want to leave----good luck!

I heard Argentina or Uraguat are Beautiful.
