I need advice about travel in Mexico. I am traveling between Guadalajara and Queretero. What should I do? |
In August I am traveling from Guadalajara Mexico to Queretero Mexico. Other than renting a car, what is the best/most cost effective way to travel around? |

Travel time between Guadalajara and Queretaro is about 4 hours by car (5-6 by bus). The cities are well communicated by big highways since Queretaro is between Guadalajara and Mexico City. Flights are on the high end of the price spectrum but are most time effective, so if time is of the essence that'd be your choice, but expect to pay around $100US one way and is harder to get to the airport than to the bus terminal. I'd recommend to travel by bus, there are several companies that offer trips to Mexico City almost every hour, making a stop in Queretaro. I recommend ETN, is the most comfortable. ($35US one way), they have at least 8 runs per day to Queretaro. Traveling by bus, specially between big cities is as safe as in the US so don't get scared or feel threatened by what you read in the news about crime. |

I live in Guadalajara.....and last year, I lived in Querétaro....so I made this trip often! Taking a plane is expensive and a bit ridiculous....considering that the cities are only about 5 hours apart by bus. The bus line that is the most comfortable and "classy" is ETN. But I choose Primera Plus....it's a bit cheaper and just as comfortable. There is not too much in between the two cities....around Guadalajara (on the road to Puerto Vallarta) you have the city of Tequila and Chapala. Near Querétaro....I always stop in Guanajuato to visit the mummies and to shop. Have fun! Mexico is beautiful! |

Take an ETN bus it'll take you like 6-7 hours and the busses are really comfortable, the ticket should costs around 40-45 dollars.
If you rent a car you have to take the Zapotlanejo exit in Guadalajara and drive by the toll way following the road to Leon, Guanajuato, and then take the federal road that'll take you to Queretaro in 2 hours and it's a 6 lanes road. |

plane is fine but also expensive, but you can try the Alma airline, its new and cheaper than Mexicana or stuff, also Volaris, is a new chep airline, or you can take a bus, but its long hours so your choice. |

I would say take a plane. Right now Mexico is quite dangerous and is would be too risky to drive. If you are short in money, than catch a bus. |
