I recently returned from Porte Vallarta Mexico Early...Cultural Shock anyone?

I actually found puerto vallarta to be a lot of fun. horseback riding, hiking to the waterfalls, snorkeling, clubs, etc. perhaps you went in expecting too much. you can't go to places like that expecting five star hotels where everyone speaks english. if you just take it for what it is and find some interesting things to do, it can be the best trip of your life

come on! I don't know what your experiences were, but Vallarta is a great place. You have to keep in mind when you travel that you won't find the same things there are in your country/city , that's the whole purpose of travelling!

Have a better attitude next time you travel anywhere and you'll enjoy it better.

Joseph, I'm Mexican, and there is no comparison of American beaches and Mexican beaches, Mexico is a more relax, carefree ambient. For example, I was in South Padre Island, and everything is "cold" there is no charisma. Mexico have a lot of hidden places that are wonderful, like La Escondida Beach, that is only by boat in Puerto Vallarta, and also, a lot of places to eat (not mcdonalds) and places to have fun. You have to learn to adapt yourself and enjoy the Cultural differences instead of trying to compare USA and Mexico. Did you try the food? Staying in the Clubs after 2am? the friendship of people?.

If not, there is the Four Seasons Hotel, and you will find the American Standard that you are looking for...

I guess it depends on where you go. I have never been to Puerto Vallarta but I hope to some day. In the mean time I can tell you the Riviera Maya in the state of Quintana Roo is just so beautiful.... and believe me they have some luxurious hotels in Cancun...they just have everything there. The "Sierra de Chihuahua" is also a beautiful place and you can take a first class train ride and cross through many tunnels through the mountains.

I had a cultural shock, but in Europe... I came from MÃ©xico, and I know that in my country i have to look for 5 Stars hotels, because it could mean a wide range of surpices.

In Switzerland I found 5 star hotels, without heating, air conditioning, no 24 hours rooms service, and old rooms with damaged furnitures (a guests felt down in the restaurant, because the chair broke suddenly...).

Puerta vallarta is a great spot for vacationing. There is so much to do.. Sorry to here you donÂ´t feel the same way.. Maybe you just need to open up to other cultures a bit more before going abroad..
