I have been to Mexico City a few times, my husband is from Mexico (about two hours from the city) and I visit frequently. This considered, I would much rather go to Mexico City than Tijuana. Perhaps you havent paid much attention to the news/politics of Mexico recently. But the boarder is not safe right now. There have been many shootings in towns like Tijuana and Jaurez due to the stamping out of cartels and drug lords. The president of Mexico has been working very hard to find and prosecute drug lords and smuggleres of Mexico. But during this time, there is alot of fighting and violence in these boarder towns. Because of the increasing pressure many police and politicians are being murdered, as well as street gun fights within the cartels. The recent incident I am thinking of, 6 men of the SAME cartel killed each other in a fight in the streets of Tijuana. If you want to go to Mexico and would like to stay away from overcrowded beaches, I would suggest Guadlajara or another colonial town. My trips personally always take me to a very small town north-east of Mexico City where my husband grew up. I always enjoy myself there and am close to the pyramids. Good luck with your future trip.

Tijuana!?! Are you serious?? I went there last year. It is not great at ALL! Was fun, but there are better places to go!! A lot of dentists..markets...good restaurants..everything is cheap. But it was dirty..don't go alone...go some where else actually haha.

PV is what you make it, as there are so may things you can choose to do once you're there. You sound inexperienced with Mexico and for this reason I would advise you to skip TJ.

Tijuana vs Puerto Vallarta ? Are you for real ?
Don't know what you consider "fun" but that's your gig.
I cant even comprehend the decision.
I agree with the other person as I don't know what your definition of a "trap" is?

Why do you think Puerto Vallarta is a trap ???
i think you're confused about where you want
to go on vacations too ...
let's just say that's a tough neck of the woods.
Hearty
Tiajuana can be a 'tourist trap' too if you look and act like a tourist!
