Your ship will probably arrive around 8:00am if on schedule. Cruise Liners have been going to Mazatlan for at least the past 20 years. Mazatlan is on the cruise route referred to as the Mexican Riviera. If it were me, I would get transportation to the beach. Taxis are probably not available. You will be taken by a tourist vehicle at a set rate per person if the cruize line hasn't taken care of the cost, it could be in the 10 dollar (U.S.) range per person. Tell the driver you want to go to a popular restaurant/bar on the beach in the most popular area of the beach. Tell him he will lose his tip if he takes you someplace just because they will pay him for each person he brings them. Good spots don't have to bribe the drivers and Depending on when you go, the place can get pretty wild with the younger crowd. Drinking age is 18 in Mexico. This is where I would make contacts for the remainder of the day. There will be many American and Canadians at the tables near you that actually live in Mazatlan. Spark up a conversation. See if something special is going on anywhere in town. They will know and be happy to make suggestions from a local viewpoint but with U.S. mindsets. You will have plenty of offers from time share salespeople. If you have a hard time saying no, just tell them you don't have a credit card and they will leave you alone. Your credit card provides the only means by which they can transact business with you.
The Mexican people are among the friendliest on the planet. Your child will be welcome at any place you wish to visit. This word of caution regarding the Mexican people, they are so friendly that they will give you directions even if they have no idea where something is. Only trust taxi drivers for directions. Walk through the shops, take some side streets if they look interesting. Some of the architecture is great. Taxis are very inexpensive as are the buses. I advise taxis to take you anyplace more than a few blocks. You don't have much time on land, use it efficiently. You should have a wonderful time even if you do nothing more than sit under a beach palapa and sip Pina Coladas or Margaritas. Mango Daquiris are also awesome. Made with fresh fruit and rum. When you depart, your ship will sail off into one of the most spectacular sunsets imaginable.
Hasta luego
P.S. For those who have answered this question with, "Duh, I don't know where it is" Mazatlan is located on the Pacific Coast of Mexico in the State of Sinaloa. It is nearly straight across the Sea of Cortez (Gulf of California) from the tip of Baja California at a latitude that locates it in the arid (non-tropical) part of the country. |

I'm from Mazatlan. I was born in and still live in Mazatlan. When I discovered this question about our city, I rushed to answer it but RUupTOit described exactly what I was going to say with a plus, having been living here for so long. I won't add anything else to his answer, except than an excellent source of information you can find very useful: <www.pacificpearl.com>, a small montly newspaper run by american residents in MZT and completely devoted to aid visitors during their staying in the city. Feel confident to give them a visit. I'm sure it's going to be the best source of information you can find. See you soon in Mazatlan. |

The cruise should provide tours, but you should see the cliff divers and if you have time, try parasailing |

.The cruise line will provide tours to different areas, that is the best way, if you do not speak spanish. The taxi drivers will scare the bejiggers out of you, but know the best places to go. Try to take a tour along the coast, sheer cliffs on one side, jungle on the other and i do mean jungle. If your child is a boy he will get a bang out of the hugh lizards running around, take a city bus somewhere if you want to experience culture shock at its best, its great. People used to bring their animals on the buses, dogs, cats rabbits, pigs, goats, ect. Only place you could see a truck, Mercedes, and donkey pulled cart driving down the street in harmony. Mexican people are great.

the mexican cruises are relitively new to these old mexican ports. Just make sure that the destinations are varied with activities. I went to Costa Maya on a recent cruise and it was a tremendous let down. The crew on board even commented it was a waiste of time and money. Best thing-ask the crew members on your ship. They visit these ports all the time and are in the know about the ports of call. |

Try their maize made food in open resturants. There you can listen passing music group who play for the other families who sing along with them.Beware of hot chili food.Don't touch curd(something like old yogurt)not familiar you may sleep in the WC.you can buy souveniors at the ship's dock specially Red indian garments. |

When I went on the Mexican cruise we bought a tour on the pier and not on the ship, its too expensive. We had two kids with us and we took them to the beaches and ate at the resturant there and they had a blast. Afterwards the tour guide took us around the city, learned about their history and then he took us shopping. It's very beautiful, you'll have fun. |

Goto the downtown area and see the Catherdral and historical sites. I really liked the beaches but you'll get bugged by vendors heavily on particular days. If your hotel is on the beach, stay within the limits of the cabana if you don't like the hassle of vendors. It's recommended you don't use the hairbraiding services of vendors since health issues can be a concern and there is no regulation. There are tours available, which are nice, and can take you to more authentic and meaningful places than the tourist traps. You'll have to shop around. Becareful of tours since the sales people are paid on commission and can/will change the price if they feel they can get a little extra out of you. Use cash when possible so you don't have credit issues if yoou chose to buy from small unknown shops. Make sure the sheets are changed daily and avoid using the top cover. ask for a change of sheets if you don't feel they will do it. |

Anything u can think about, uve a children too. U can cruise, dine in, hunting(duck, etc),whatever u like. Just be careful while u book for hotels & cruise cz they may charge u more if u dont knock the right place. It is beautiful.U can get the modern touch of world as well as the ancient civilisation touch. If ur active enough to roam around, u'll have 1 of the best holidays ever. u can search the web to see whats happening there, where to go. there are lists. www.allaboutmazatlan.com is good with enough information. check it out.
thanks. |

I went on a Mexican 7 day cruise two years ago in Mazatlan. As soon as you get off the ship, there will be TONS of Volkswagen taxi cabs waiting for people to jump in. We actually were able to hire one for 40.00 US the entire day, I believe like 6-8 hours we were there. We negotiated this before we even got in the cab. He took us on a tour of Mazatlan, shopping, to eat. Anywhere we wanted to go. He told us some history of the town. He was really really nice and spoke very good English. If you can't speak Spanish. Anyway, just a suggestion. For 40 bucks the entire day and being able to go wherever and have a driver at your disposal, it was well worth it. |
