Usually when you change from dollars to pesos you get more money. There are 10 pesos in a US dollar. If you exchange currency, many places will give you 12 pesos per dollar. They accept American money, but its harder to count your change when you pay with dollars and get pesos in change. Thats another thing. Most of your change will be in pesos so you might as well exchange currencies and make a bit of a profit... Hope I helped. Have fun.

You can barter with dollars better, but if you buy a major purchase use plastic. You will get close to the exchange rate, better deal than the money exchange places on the boarder! Have fun!

pesos, you get more stuff for less (normally for less cents but when you spend a lot they count)

I went shopping in Mexico once, great fun. Haggling is really neat. I used my american dollars and everything worked out fine. It's easier to use your money than to switch to pesos and the marketers don't really mind.

Anytime I have ever gone to Mexico (Cancun, Cozumel, Tijuana) they gladly accept my American money.
Most of the stores list the prices in dollars, not pesos--particularly areas that are visited by Americans.
