If I want to go to Cancun, what do I need? A passport?

You sure do need a passport if you want to get back into the US. There was a news article that came out about 2-3 weeks ago stating that people were able to travel with the receipt showing that they had applied for their passports, but it did not apply to those who are yet to apply. The passport office right now is overwhelmed with work and they are backed up 4 months. Unless you pay extra and have it expedited, but I wouldn't trust it to much.

you are suppose to have a passprot, but there have been so many people applying for one that the gov. is kind of behind. You can go online after you ahve filed for one and print out a confirmation code, but if you are going to canada, mexico, or the caribeans, then you only need your photo id adn birth cert. I would bring the confirmation just in case.

That is partly true. But... you must also show the receipt that proves you have applied for a passport and are currently waiting for it to arrive. A travel agent can verify this.

You need to go to the website below and follow the instructions to apply for a passport PRONTO. Then you can read the info for the "flexibility" program. It will take at least a few days for your application to get into the system .When you take your application to the post office ask how many days thay will be...if they know. Then FOLLOW the directions on the website carefully to qualify for the flying without a passport "flexibliity" program. I hope you are not planning to travel til LATE July so there is time to get these things done.

right now, its a yes u need 1 to get back in by air travel and in i think july u need a passport re enter the country by land,but recent stories in the media have posed the possibility that the ground travel rule, the state department may move the date back to 2008.

Im. mexican and i alreday have everything for example my passaport. there are 2 kinds, traveling by car and aiplain. i have the passaport by car, but if youre by airplane, yes you need a passaport.

p.s. if youre traveling by airplane, make shure when u come back , your suitcase may not go over or 40 pounds or sumthing like that. my dad hed a terrible experience by not having his passaport
