It really depends on where you are going, what you are going for, and how you are getting there... different cities/towns/areas of the country require different things... but, you can buy just about anything you forget.
Things I always take:
1. Pillow (& small blanket) - sleeping on buses and planes is more comfy with your own pillow.
2. Immodium - I take this anytime I travel... you never know when your tummy won't quite agree with you.
3. International calling card - Unless you have an international calling plan on your cell phone, you will pay a FORTUNE in roaming charges for calling or receiving calls in Mexico.
4. Jacket (or sweatshirt) - This isn't necessary everywhere (such as resort towns in the middle of summer), but most places that I have been to in Mexico tend to get a little chilly at night... especially inland.
5. Some cash to exchange for pesos - Most places in Mexico (aside from department stores and international and national chain stores) still run on a cash-only basis. A lot of gas stations (even in Mexico City) still don't accept credit cards for purchases. And, for me anyway, the bank charges me ATM fees and currency conversion fees in Mexico.
6. Good shoes for walking - Keep your feet feeling good and you are more likely to enjoy your trip.
7. Ipod/book/portable entertainment - You will probably find yourself waiting somewhere for a long time with nothing to do (the airport/bus station/etc).
8. Babywipes/Wetnaps - Good for cleaning up just about anything... Wet Wipes makes a portable, individually wrapped wipe... I usually carry about 5-10 of these when I travel... just in case. You can't imagine how many times I was happy to have them.
9. A hat/cap and sunglasses - The sun can get pretty unbearable in some parts... year round.
...finally...
10. Enough room in your suitcase for souvenirs - there are a lot of cool, cheap gift available... just don't forget to claim them at customs. ;) |
