Not every person in Mexico has brown skin. There are many very fair-skinned, blonde haired, blue-eyed Mexicans. Many Mexicans have Indian ancestry, many have European ancestry, many are a mix. I live in Mexico and have Mexican friends who are of all types of appearances. Most of the Mexican immigrants who come to the U.S. are of Indian ancestry...this gives Americans the erroneous viewpoint that all Mexicans have dark skin.

Mexican is a nationality, not a race.

According to our Constitution is considered as mexican anyone born inside the mexican territory (wich includes the embassys), mexican crafts (boats or airplanes), or at least one of the parents is mexican (no matter where born).

Of course there are white mexicans.

In your class says you are young so I will go easy on you.
Yes, he is Mexican if he wishes to say he is because he was born there .
Put yourself in his position if you were in Italia for example.
you would say you were American wouldn't you (assuming you are America)
Seems to me he is proud to say he is Mexican and you should respect that.
Some countries recognize the renouncing of nationalities of origin.
Don't make skin color an issue. 20% of Mexicans are fair skinned and avoid the sun.
If , however your classmate was born in Mexico and both parents are American as the new President of the U,S,A. was born in Panama and both his parents were American the he could have duel nationality.
When you grow up visit Mexico I dont think you will be dissapointed
It has been a long time since I was 10 years old and I respect your question

I was born in the USA but I was born with automatic mexican citizenship. I personally consider myself to be mexican (or at least half mexican to be more exact).

Oh, I'm of european heritage. Mexican citizenship laws are similar to the US in that you can inherit citizenship even if you aren't born in the country if a parent is mexican. And just like in the US, even if none of your parents are mexican, you are born with citizenship if you're born on mexican soil.

It's also possible to aquire citizenship as an immigrant.

Mexican law stipulates you get citizenship no matter what your race is. You could be part ethnically somalian or inuit or whatever and still be mexican.

luzhao25
if you hold citizenship to a certain country, your nationality is of that country. But in terms of heritage it depends on what ethnicity you are.

Ex.: I was born in Germany to American parents and now i live in the U.S. My nationality is American.

Old Kid
You were born in America regardless of you heritage, you are American. So I would say he is.

I was born in Hawaii, I am mostly white European, am I Hawaiian?

and yes if u were born in mexico you are mexican
but u can habe a double nationality if ur parents are american

Alex
Im white mexican so what???!!!!!

Ella
It's only if he has been raised as a Mexican yeah, but if he is just saying that only because he was born there and lives in the U.S. then no because he's doesn't have Mexican blood or hasn't been raised like a Mexican. I wouldn't consider myself American. I wouldn't consider myself Mexican American because I was preety much raised like a Mexican and I am Mexican =]
