The Ghost

Hi, for starters I have to say I'm a little off put by much of the "hating" answers given by some of the contributors to your question. some parts, few part in fact, of Mexico are going through some unfortunate events right now, but the sadder part of the story is that some people will not only believe what they read in the paper or see in the news, they will expound on it to a point beyond reason. If you go into Mexico you will be beaten and raped? That is a very sad person, and very sad answer. The American Media has never been friendly to Mexico because it has never helped sell newspapers or airtime, it's amazing how many people think Mexico is dirt poor and how they so non chalantly mention it as a third world country. While it has some areas that are very poor, Mexico can boast of having the 14th largest economy in the world, how bad are 15-200 then? People do more talking than thinking and opinions are transformed by irresponsible talking heads. Now having that said, I would be very happy if my answer contributed to a possible "next trip spot" or something of the like.
If I could go anywhere in Mexico, I would have to say that Cancun is the best place to go. The clear see thru water is enough of a justification for me to consider the city one of the most beautiful treasures Mexico has to offer. It's tourist nature provides for great atmosphere, awesome nightlife and amazing rest and relaxation all in one.
As a scuba diver, the crystalline water makes for some of the best scuba diving ever. The dependency on tourism of the city, ensures that an already friendly culture will remain friendly as they truly appreciate the benefits that tourism brings to the city. The nearby Mayan Pyramids, are some of the most amazing structures ever created by man, particularly for all the little astronomical tricks and devices that the Mayans included. I've always felt that Cancun is like Cabo (nightlife), Bora Bora (Clear Beaches), and Egypt (pyramids) all mixed into one amazing location with incredible weather. Add this to the underwater caves that are nearby and an exploration of amazing jungle flora and fauna, and Wow! I like Cancun.
Argument against the Cons:
A common argument against Cancun is that it has too many tourists or that it is not representative of the Mexican people. While this is true if seen from the glass is half empty perspective, it is quite comforting for American tourists to see other Americans in a foreign land, after all one only goes for a few days or weeks to Cancun. If you were looking to move, I would suggest other cities based on criteria that are more personal to you. I hope this helps and if it does, I'd appreciate the ten points, thanks! |

Mexico is such an unstable and lawless country, I will not go back. Id love to visit the Aztec and other ruins and pyramids, but the problems I encountered, and friends have encountered, Mexico is one place I will always regret not being able to go to again. |
