EVERYBODY in Mexico drinks bottled water! Of course your sickness could be unrelated, but if you drank tap water that could be it. Restaurants serve bottled water and ice made from bottled water. Sometimes you can get sick from food you are unaccustomed to or from eating fruit or veggies that were not thoroughly washed and disinfected.

The chances are very good it's from the water. You really don't know want to know the details, but if it's any comfort, they can get sick from our water, too. It's part sanitation and part acclimation. Their systems are "used to" their local bugs, just as our usually are.

I'd take a travel size bottle of hand sanitizer, too, and actually use it. Often.

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a drug you can get with a prescription from your doctor that will help prevent this, but it's still better not to drink the water or anything with ice in it, and don't eat any fruit or veggies you can't peel first. Bottled water, beer and soft drinks are OK.

Bottled water is OK. Probably too many Margaritas.

Yes, it could probably be the water. Take some immodium and see if that helps. If you still feel really sick in a couple days than go to the doctors!!

When EVERYONE tells you to be careful with the water they're not ALL being over cautious!!!

Hope you feel better soon!

there's a pretty good chance it was.... there are different parasites and such there that we don't have in our water here that our bodies aren't used to. You may want to see a doctor or take something that will cleanse your insides.

Hola. Water/food are both problems for tourists that visit Mexico. But don't you ever wonder why the locals aren't sick? Well its because they have built up immunities to the bacterias found there.

When you say "sick" I assume you mean Montezuma revenge? Diarrhea? That can be easily treated by over the counter remedies. Don't wait and allow yourself to get dehydrate.

If you have a fever, or are vomiting, or stay sick for a really long time, then see a doctor. Your bacterial infection is out of control and needs antibiotics, or you could have picked up a worm, or perhaps even a more serious disease such as HepA.

For next time, eat a yogurt a day during your vacation. The good bacteria in the yogurt fights the bad bacteria you might consume while in Mexico. Works!

u juss dont drink the tap water, but any water tht they give u in a restaurant including the ice is safe

I won't even brush my teeth with tap water. I will bathe and wash my hands, but no food washing or drinking of tap water.

I learned my lesson the hard way... paid for it dearly for several days at an all-inclusive in Playa del Carmen.

Dont drink the water youll get bad diarrhea! Take bottled water that is purified.

Generally no you don't want to drink the water there, only bottled water is safe to drink, they get the bottled water from the U.S. and Canada mostly. People call it Montezumas Revenge when you get sick there. If you have diarrhea, nausea, an up set stomach, or any vomiting you most likely have some nasty bacteria taking up residence in you stomach and intestines. The people in Mexico are used to drinking the water, they've been drinking it their whole lives, so they have built up an immunity to the bacteria naturally found in the water, other people from other countries are not used to the water. You might want to go to the doctor if you haven't felt any better in a few days as Montezumas Revenge usually just lasts a few days to a week at the most because you could have Hepatitis A, which is treatable and curable, unlike Hepatitis C. If you weren't around any blood or human or animal feces then you likely don't have Hepatitis, but a lot of people don't wash their hands after using the bathroom. So if you aren't any better in a few more days you should go to a doctor. Hope you start feeling better soon. Oh I have had friends who have gotten sick from drinking the water but they were fine after about a week. Hope I helped :).
