If you're driving you can take anything that will fit into your vehicle. You will have to stop at the border and pay taxes on it though. It's something like 15 percent of its value. If you don't have receipts its up to the customs officer to decide what the cost of it is.

If you get your visa to live there before you enter Mexico though you can write up a "menaje de casa" (i think that's what its called) and have it approved by a Mexican consulate and you can bring all of this stuff for free.

To legally move household goods to Mexico without paying taxes on everything, you must have an FM3 visa and you may make one trip bringing in household goods. BUT..to be perfectly practical...it can cost you a lot more to have stuff moved here...and it is a real pain in the rear...than to just buy what you need here. You can buy decent , even handmade furniture for reasonable prices. Certainly is less than paying a mover. If you are wealthy, or moving here permanently, then you may want to move stuff, but for a short time, it is not worth it.

The definitive answer to your question is "YES" and "NO".
"YES"-You can take your stuff to Mexico if you absolutely have to.You will need a FM3 resident visa, use a shipping agent and international moving company and fill out endless forms. It will cost you a fortune and weeks and weeks before they catch up with you.
"NO"-You can't just bring your stuff into the country, and why would you want to? You can replace everything you need here for much less than the cost of shipping the old stuff to you.
My advice, if you need your couches and tables, buy a motor home and put your stuff in it. Drive it across the border with your FMT visa (6 month tourist visa) and put it in your house when you get here. No one will ask you for import duty taxes on the stuff in your motor home.
When you leave, either put the stuff back in the motor home or leave it here for your next visit. When you get home, sell the motor home.
