For your first time I would suggest Cancun or Cabo, both are sooo fun, endless things to do in both destinations.

it depends where you are flying to..but i would say you need to visit guanajuato (its such a pretty state) and oaxaca..you wont regret going to either of those two places. if you want something more beachy then i would go to ixtapa ( theres less tourist here then cancun, acapulco, and puerto vallarta) or just stay in oaxaca because they have some amazing beaches! |

Since you're originally from Mexico, I would assume that you're exposed to the culture that other people aren't exposed to, and if that's the case, then here are a few suggestions; you may check the internet for more information but I've been to these before and had fun, as well as enjoyed the history, cultural and lifestyle...
Mexico City has so much to do, so much shopping, theatre, history, sightseeing, including Teotihuacan (Aztec Temples). You can probably spend 2 weeks there and won't get halfway through.
Guadalajara, Morelia, Monterrey and Veracruz are so full of history, very beautiful.
Then you have other places such as San Miguel de Allende, Merida, some cities in Guanajuato, other places in Michoacan (such as Uruapan) that have natural beauties everywhere.
If you're idea of traveling and enjoying your vacation is hittin the clubs and party scene, checkin out the peeps, etc... then you should try a beach instead. The only beach I highly recommend in Mexico is Cabo San Lucas; desert on one side, water on the other side and "el arco" (the rock formation that's made Cabos famous) in front of you; can't beat it. It's a small area, but very fun. Unlike Acapulco and Mazatlan where all the natives hang out and unlike Cancun or Cozumel, where it's so Americanized... Cabos fits perfectly in between those two.
Not really sure if this answered your question since it was very broad and many answers would help. Have fun and be safe!! |

It depends what area you will flying to. Places not be missed in Mexico Cancun, Cozumel, Playa del Carmen, Tulum and on the other side Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta.
Enjoy and have a great trip

Mazatlan or Puerto Vallarta. Two beatuiful places. I would not sugest Cancun. You will have a better time in those two. Mexico City as well. |

San Miguel de Allende, beautiful colonial town with lots of colors on the houses, art galleries and lovely food. Lots of american ex-pats living there though...
Highly recommended, otherwise, Mexico City!! The big Taco!
All the beach destination are a safe choice because they are really nice.
It all depends on what you want to do, if you want to see the Mayan ruins go to the south-east and get into the jungle. If you want to get a grip of the Aztec heritage, nothing like Mexico City; for the caribbean go to Cancun and for the mating of the turtles and whales go to the Pacific side! |
